Hi phishfood, welcome to db. I went to a small sheltered channel in west cork this evening. Stayed in for 90 minutes saw loads of mullet one was the biggest i've seen to date. after half an hour spotted a good sized bass in the bad vis but couldn't turn the gun fast enough, another hour of searching and i mistook a mullet tail in the kelp for a bass and speared it. while i was removing this spear i saw two bass beneath me that disappeared fairly lively :vangry:vangry Still it's good to see so much life in the seas

phishfood, welcome to db by the way. think the hawaiian sling is similar but the elastic band is actually attached to it. similar principal though.

Hi guys, triggers came from derrynane in kerry.
i would love to be scaring bass up from under

Hi Danas,

Yep have ordered a effesub suit and lots of other bits from them with no real problems only that it took a while for it to arrive as some of the items were out of stock.

Ive ordered alot from them but a word of advice. Send them an email with the items you want to order first. They can then tell you whats not in stock and hopfully eliminate any delays.

phishfood, i only sharpened my spear the other day. i got a 5 inch angle grinder with a metal cutting blade and lay it on the ground and switched it on. put the spear to it and rotated it slowly. did the job perfectly!
went to west cork saturday with my girlfriend. vis was poor and a seal was following 20 yards behind me the whole way. saw one bass and missed. changed location but the wind picked up and the vis got even worse!!

me and the missus are thinking about visiting your loverly country for a long weekend. im allowed a dive while over there and was hoping to have a go at those mighty pollack. Any suggestions on some nice sceneic spots with good fishing and diving oh nearly forgot is has to be on the south part

Hi Scott, The pollack fishing's pretty good over most of Ireland once weather and sea conditions are OK.
For scenery, Southwest, the Beara peninsula (far West of West Cork), and the ring of Kerry (County Kerry, obviously) are both highly rated.

You should think about heading to the west or south west Scott. It's very scenic and rugged, I won't comment on the weather though but I'm sure it'll pick up soon. If your down my way let me know.

Went to west cork lastnight at low tide good vis in places saw no bass but huge numbers of mullet. Strange to see so many in one place, all around and beneath me including some large ones. Didn't spear anything.

Saturday I went West, to a big headland, to try for some pollack.The wind was forecast Northwest, which would have been good. What it actually did was to blow from Southwest, which made a chop. I found few decent pollack and ended the day with one 4.2lb fish.
Today went much better! I went East this time, to try a rock one mile offshore, but sheltered from the Southwest wind by a big headland.
When I got there I counted seven seals entering the water and most of the time a seals head was poking up nearby. In spite of that I saw good pollack from the first dive and soon had one, the biggest of the day as it turned out. Three angling boats arrived shortly after, towing lures round the rock in wide circles. I didn't fancy being hooked so I moved to the nearby rocky point that the boats had come from.
The fish I saw caught by the boats were all small. I did better in both spots, catching 5 fish off the point to total 6 pollack in 30 dives.


6.5lbs, 5.9lbs, 4.5lbs, 4.2lbs, 3.4lbs and 2.9lbs.
The rocky point can be seen in the background of the second photo.

Im from kilmore Quay in wexford there are great spots for bass and big big pollock out at the saltee islands the vis is usually quite good there to.

Welcome irishhunter, good to find a spearo from the sunny south east. i've been hearing stories of big bass in the waterford/wexford region on angling sites. have you speared anything big yourself
