I was out yeterday vis was pretty poor but the sea was flat calm for a while and the sun even made an appearance. should be out again this evening with a bit of luck.

Out yesterday and launched the inflatable. Dirk and myself started motoring West round the seven heads but once we got out into the main tide and swell the motor wasn't up to the sea conditions. The motor is only 5 horsepower and it smokes like a bu**er! The Zodiac is 4 metres and I think we need a 15 horse engine.
We turned back and dived a spot on the less exposed Eastern side of the heads instead. At "Z scar" we found a lobster in a large horizontal crack at 30ft, but couldn't get it without the lobster hook.(Left it at home:head).
Later I took the gun and got a mullet and a pollack, both around the 4lb mark.
Well done to Donnachad on the PB bass.

hey guys, heading back to ireland tonight.

can't wait to get back in the water. picked up a D4 here, so i'll have to get out tomorrow, regardless!

sunfish, bypass the 15 and go straight to the 25hp.
a friend of mine has an inflatable with a 25 on it and its a rocket. we used to zip between islands at home with it or back and forth to Clare. as well as diving from it.

not starting college until a week today, so i might get off south on a bass hunting trip.

Had a look at the mouth of cork harbour today but the seas were already rough and looking very milky. Doesn't look very good for the week ahead. Cant complain though got out 3 times this weekend and speared 3 good bass. A friend of mine speared his first fish yesterday a bass of 4.5lbs. We went to a spot that can only be accessed when the sea is calm so i've been waiting a while to check it out. There was a large number of bass 4 to 5lbs, i took 1 and held off to see if anything bigger showed but nothing did. Here's a pic of saturdays bass 7lb4

we managed to get out his evening sea was lovely and flat but the vis was poor but had a great evening diving on the line all the same. Was nearly 8 when we got out so was dark when we got back in.

went to Hook Head on sunday. get into water and then its about 30min is started getting milky and wavy . shoot couple fish - just to have some barbecue. nothing impressive .

Went after big bass on Thursday and after big pollack today. Vis poor both days, even offshore today it was only 10ft.
I saw bass on Thursday to 6lb or 7lb and pollack today to only 3lb or so.
No personal bests. Maybe try again tomorrow.

2008_09070006.jpgOut for a family barbecue at the beach today. I went snorkelling with my two youngest then managed an hour or so to look for fish. I got two of 5.4lb and 4.3lbs. Vis was terrible (one to two metres).

got out three times since i got back.

Thursday, the vis was crap, and saw very few fish.
saturday, the vis was good, saw loads of fish, but lost the spear from my gun, and try as i might, i couldn't find it.
sunday, went looking for shellfish, as i now have no spear (ordering today) but only found congers.

but on the up side, the D4 is working well.

its great to get dive time, surface time and depth.

started college this morning at 8, so i doubht there will be much spearing for me in the next few months.

have one spot to try out for shells, which was recomended by a friend.

I am over from Scotland for the week staying near Spidal. Anyone fancy meeting up in the Galway Bay area. I have not brought the boat over as it's not finished. I'll bring it next time and leave it.

I have not found many good marks on the north side of the Bay and have never seen a bass. Any ideas?

hi jrh , whats the vis like, i don't know galway bay only clare, i hear killard south of doonbeg is a good spot (doughmore is rippy, as is doolin bay) , or for better vis i usually go around the south side of fanore beach, theres lots of swell till next tuesday after which the vis might improve, i'll be surfing this wkend, your welcome to meet up if you want to borrow my gun while im surfing, here's my number 0860759174

ps near QUILITY town, south to the peir lots of dogs and bass not sure about vis, alot of weed gets deposited here

hey JRH, if you're living near spidal, then you must have a car?
check out the carraroe area, any of the beaches there are good. use google earth before going as roads can be a bit maze like and sign posts dificult to follow.

if i'm going spearing any time soon i'll give you a shout, but as for now, i'm very busy in college.

Co. Clare is also good, a few spots this side of black head. trial and error really.

Got out today after a monday morning lie in:):) headed west and got myself a 6.5lb bass. The sea was fairly calm 2-3 metre vis. After landing the first went out to deeper water, fired at a shoal of about 20 bass and missed, next dive the shoal appraoched from the side, couldn't turn the gun without spooking them so had to just watch them from the corner of my eye coming almost to my mask before bolting:head. So I'm off for the next few days, the msw looks promising, maybe there's a big 'un out there before the season draws to a close.
D.

Got out today again in good conditions. Got 3 bass between two of us averaging 4lb. I didn't take a shot at a 7lber because of a bigger fish behind him, just out of range and on the edge of visibility. I decided to try and get closer through the kelp to get the shot but needless to say i fcuked it up and spooked them both.
