hi (sorry for my English it`s not my native language)
i live in Dublin,Knocklyon. new to this hobby. but i looking to start very very soon. ordering some gear and straight in to water. as well i will be looking for advise .
Asso65 or 75 - which one is better. do anybody using power regulator on them spear gun. or rubber guns are better?
I asked in a diving shop about spearfishing - answer was - cant use air guns(with extra gas tank) i read about it. pneumatic guns is legal

Hey Danas. Pnuematic require a licence but are not illegal. better off with a band gun, easier for starters. Personally id go for the 75 because its longer(every diver has his prefences)and easier to hit fish in bad vis.

hey! got out last friday evening (not yesterday) near carraroe.
have to say, was the coldest i've seen all year.
and there were no fish

i'll be better off time wise after the 9th of may, so am planning some expeditions.
heading to Canada for the summer so won't be around.

got out today for the first time since last summer................
visibility 6ft, the 7mm suit kept me roasting. Not much to see except small bass and mullets
Mullets everywhere. So i said i will try a few shots just in case i forgot how to aim.
The result was not so bad.
Anyone else out???

1)Cut the fish in cutlets. in a small bowl mix olive oil(half a mug),oregano and the juice of 1 lemon. Apply on the cutlets,wrap them in tin foil and straight in the oven. Open the foil for the last 3-4 minutes of cooking to grill them....
2)Remove head and tail.Apply again the mix on the fish and of you go ...on the charcoal.....Weather permitting.
Charcoal can be tricky though because overcooking leads to loss of the juices from the fish and it will end up dry.
Keep me in mind, i could join you and baldyfish for a session

Went to Lough Ine today with Donnachad and his friend Owen for a practise/fitness dive, and of course for the enjoyment. Lough Ine is a marine reserve so no hunting or gathering is allowed, but it's a tremendous place to swim when there's no vis in the open sea.
The three of us swam across the lough to begin with, making dives on the way, hitting depths to 48 ft. Donnachad found a load of sea slugs,(sea hares I think) on the way over.
When we reached the other side we had a couple of dives at the Whirlpool cliffs where I managed to catch hold of a huge bull huss. I let it go as soon as we'd had a look, as it didn't seem happy and kept trying to bite me. Next we shot the rapids towards Barloge creek. The "rapids" is the spot where the lough empties and fills with the tide, through a narrow and shallow creek (3 to 5 ft). I don't know the speed but it seemed like 10 to 12 knots and you need to go feet first for safety! You then have to walk back of course - no way could you swim it.
On the way back we had a few dives and I sidetracked West to find deeper water where I managed to clock 58ft on the D3.
An enjoyable swim with vis of 15ft or so. Since vis is virtually zero in the open sea we are lucky indeed to have Loch Ine to train in.

Helllo guys went with Oak on saturday just under Rosslare harbour but see was too rough and finish by plug fishing in wexford harbour with no catch. Anyway that was a good day to get out of Dublin, discover our futur spot and share a guiness in the pub.
Was great to meet Oak and share spearfishing passion.
Hope that we will do this gathering later one cheers

Just been this evening to try for a bass. I was hoping the Northeast wind would have cleared the visibility a bit but it was still only one metre and still a bit swelly among the reefs.
By going a bit offshore and diving into kelp, where I could look at the sky, I managed to see past the gun tip but no fishes appeared. Seems like the best visibilty's in England this spring. Only one more day to catch Aprils "FOM" now.

I also went out this evening,first session this year.great to get below the surface again.Vis was'nt great,just a few feet.I went to Portrane in Co.Dublin.First time I tried this place out,interesting ground to dive down to,plenty of gullies and deep ledges with clean and rough ground.Looks like an ideal spot for bass,but all I saw were a few shore crabs,maybe its a bit early?Last summer on the boat about 200 yards off this mark we caught mackerel,flats,codling,dogfish and huge tope so there's definetly fish there to be speared,although I dont think I'd have the balls to shoot a tope!
Heading off to Achill Island this weekend and will be bringing the gun of course.I'll post some pictures if I get any decent fish.Any of you guys ever spear in Achill before?

keem bay is a great spot for diving but I,m not a spearo so am not sure where would be best there but keem is definatly worth a visit. If you are facing the bay the cliff to your right is better than the farthur on the left. Watch about going too far out as the current picks up past the head. Depth averages 10m+ as you go further out. I might weather and family depending be heading down there for a day trip so keep the speargun flashing about. i will be in a big cosy stoves and fireplace marked white transit van so will be ahrd to miss.

Richie looking most likely will be heading there early on sunday and will be staying at keem but not overnight. Should be about the right time of year for basking shark visits to start too so we might get lucky and see one, achill is usually a good spot for them but they might be a bit big for spearing!!

Went out in the kayak today, to "the crane", one of my favourite pollack marks. Beautiful clear visibility of 25 to 30 feet! I shot my first pollack of the year, an embarrassingly small 2lb. I'm about to eat it in about ten minutes.
My diving is way off at the moment. There was a light chop from the Southwest and a little swell too, and I found it difficult to relax properly in the surge. Hpefully after a few sessions I'll be back on the ball.
Paddling out through the waves and sunshine was glorious. This is the life, eh?
