Anybody heading out around Dublin this weekend? I'm dying to get wet but I don't like going alone.
Went spearing Friday evening, starting out in a rocky "bass area" below low cliffs. There was a bit of sea running, which made it a bit dangerous among the rocks, so I soon moved round into the estuary, which was a bit more sheltered.
While swimming round a small reef I found a shoal of mullet, some of which were quite big. There's a sewage farm near the estuary so I didn't take any.Also spotted the first bass I've seen this year. Saw him twice but as he only looked about 2lb I left him swimming with his mullet pals.

Well made it to Keem Bay on Achill on Sunday and while the weather was fine the wind had picked up a nice bit making for choppy seas. I did have one first when a bird swam past me checking me out its the first time that happened.
Met up with Richie and his brother Niall and had a burger from the barbie after the second dive. Spotted a few mullet on the way back in and had picked up a good sized spider crab which I then lost in the surf along with my torch, oh well.

Good weekend had by most!Tried out in connemara saturday in a village called ballyconneely. no fish and terrible vis so settled for a few spiders. Went to Kilkee today on the way back to cork from cong in mayo. ran into a school of mullet and i realised my gun wasnt loaded. embarassing!! No pollock or bass but hit a nice size wrass. Not very tasty but ill know next time not to bother. next week hopefully the pollock will show and ill get out to my spots!

i was in west cork at weekend. friend of mine got married in rosscarbery. oooohh some fine place. i went for little drive around and find some nice village of Glandore.its so nice there - magnificent. got some info about self catering homes will go there for some weekend. any body spearfished there or its maybe better places near by? what will u advise .

Looks very choppy indeed Fergus. All the south coast is rough at the moment, Spent the day today looking for a sheltered spot. Didn't get in at all. Anywhere we found sheltered the vis looked like it wasn't up to much. Friends of mine travelling in a car behind us had a head on smash. No injuries, very lucky considering the damage to both cars.

Glad to hear they were alright donnachad. Richie also spoke of the possibility of an all Ireland meet up over some weekend and seems to be most of the people on here are southerly based. anyone interested in stepping up to the plate and organising a meet up or is it worth while to do it? God help the fish if 10 or 15 of us meet up in the one spot. End or middle of August would be a goodish time for me at present but should be reasonably flexible.
Got the first few fish of the year at the weekend down in Achill in Keem Bay with the new 75.
Nothing special just a few small pollock around 1.5lb.Cooked them on the beach within half an hour,can't get fresher than that!We also saw a basking shark in the bay but he was gone by the time we swam out.
I'll get the picture up of the fish when I figure out how to do it.

Hi Danas, there are some pollacking spots just outside the harbour. A few mullet around too. There don't seem to be any bass west of Rosscarbery though.

I finished installing the sounder yesterday so I went to try it out today. Conditions along the coast were better suited to surfing so I went to Lough Ine again.
I paddled across to the whirlpool cliffs and the sounder was working fine. I dropped anchor for a dive, but as I got off the kayak, I had my hand on the toungue of my belt so it released and shot 35ft to the bottom! Dammit!
Luckily my anchor had a good hold, so I could get down the rope. Found it third dive.
The tide was incoming so the whirlpool was in full spin. I had great fun going round with a shoal of pollack and some wrasse.
On the way back across the lough I roamed a bit and my sounder got depths of over a hundred feet, northwest of the islands.
Hopefully the sea conditions should be better by the weekend.

cool.... i knew about scuba , but checked just encase . now will be question where are they living 
(scallops ,lobsters ,crabs ,whelks, razor clams) and how to ketch them. any body have some experience . me and my family so like them... tell me some tricks ... please

Feargus, I think this is a really good idea, to meet and do some fishing, etc:friday. If it will become an every year event, I would really try to make it for next year!

lads! i'm going to be spearing on friday! under the guise of , lets go to the beach and have a picnic. (and by picnic i mean spearfishing)
also, heading to the aran islands (home) for a few days between the 24th and 29th of may. i'll get out there as often as i can, and will put up info about spots for spearing there. in case anyone wants a good location for a holiday.
and now back to studying for tomorrow's exam.:vangry

Glad you liked the pics, say hello to Themos for me I got a message from him but couldn't reply on the Greek site. It would be great to see you guys over again.
Abusing a meet up on the Aran Islands would be great if enough people were on for it as I know its a bit of a trek if you were coming from Cork. We could meet in Athlone lads but I don't know that the spearing would be up to much.
Dave if we do ever get it together all you guys are invited to show us how it done!!
