Well done Dave !!! you some expert !!! could you do some pictures of scallops underwater , how they look and where to look for them. (please)
i was thinking maybe next weekend , if weather be good, try do few dives for scallops.

Nice one Sunfish, those triggers seem to be crafty little buggers:)

danas heres a short video I made in March this year of collecting scallops hope this helps your quest in finding them. Watching it makes me hungry :) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyYAKQ0zBdE]YouTube - Scallop Diving 29 March 2009[/ame]

Nice photos dave. sorry about cancelling. a few overdue jobs needed doing at home.:blackeye

Any body knows , where to order some parts , for Omer spear gun , handle T10. i need safety trigger and line release trigger.

Sunfish, i've only just seen your photos from last week - bravo! looks like some fun conditions there. Whilst us mortals struggle to see any fish, let alone shoot one, you're out there tickling the things lol :)

I took the kayak out today to try and find a bit of vis and some pollack. There was still a good bit of swell coming from the West but by starting from a sheltered harbour and paddling to the Eastern side of a big rocky headland I managed to avoid rough water.
The best vis I got was 2-3 metres but mostly it was worse. I saw a few good wrasse but only one medium sized pollack and that flashed in and out of vis too quickly for me. The best vis was in deeper water (12-13 metres) and in the open sea rather than in the more sheltered harbour water.
If we get a week of calmer weather there could still be some good pollack and bass to come this year.

After 2 weeks out of the water I couldn't wait any longer!

It was a little choppy and vis wasn't much but I got a few scallops and had a good old swim. Friday looks a good possibility too.

The sea bottom you're looking for is brokenshellsand, sand and mud mix, grit, that sort of thing anyway. If it's a bit sheltered from the rages of the main ocean that seems to help a bit too. It's good if it holds no interest for scuba divers. They aren't supposed to take scallops but some of them do. If there's bits of reef scattered around it stops the scallop dredgers going through.
When you eventually find a good spot don't tell anyone where it is ;).

PS. If you can get admiralty charts of your area they'll help you to find good diving spots. Welcome to Deeper Blue and good luck with the scallops.
PPS. Depth - If you find a spot no one's found already they can be quite shallow.(5 to 15 metres).
