Thanks Feargus, because its all new to me I decided I'd keep a log of what the wind direction, drift, fish seen, fish taken, tide times etc. so that I might be able to see any patterns for having a good days spearfishing or when I should just decide to go somewhere else and not waste the time.
I'm sure the experienced spearos probably have this well sussed but I thought it might be useful for me to look back and know what conditions made for a good day at a particular location and if any others find this info useful to have.

Its very sensible and many fishermen in general do this also.
I keep a very basic one in a small notebook and I would be interested to see your excel sheet?

Hi Bobdonny, Its pretty basic (I'm no excel guru) the link to "mullet" will probably be broken when you open the file on your system. I keep the photos in a separate folder called catch of the day, but you can make your own links to wherever you keep your pictures.

Thanks for the invite Feargus, my mate goes to easkey surfing quite a bit might pop up with him next time he is going. Also had a quick look at your website congrats looks like you put alot of work into it.

Has anyone here ever come across an octopus while out spearing ? They make great eating tricky customer though they tend to fight back!!!
P.s My brother in law goes diving for scallops off the connemara coast all year round in nothing but a pair of shorts,mask and snorkel he thinks I'm a wuss getting a wetsuit I think he's mad !:duh

Hi Derek, I used to keep diaries of every trip for the reasons you mention. I don't anymore but that's only because of my laziness.
Checking the stomach contents of the fish you caught can teach you a lot. Fish seem to go where a food source is.

that is fact !!! last sea bass we cut out, have found average of 12 small crabs in a stomach oh each fish. when i go fishing with a rod , first fish i catch , always open his stomach , then you be almost certain what bait to be use for future luck.

any of you spearos in or around dublin interested in a dive sometime this week ? just a meet up for a couple of dives for the craic. possibly around 40 foot or bullock. any time friday sat or sun.
there seems to be a lot of us diving in isolation it might be good to meet up and develop a real spearing community instead or a virtual one.

I would like to , but i can only do it from Saturday afternoon or Sunday at any time.

THats a great diary, obviously you know the locations and thier orientation etc. Another thing a few fishermen do is to keep track of the solunar forecast, if that was included along with what sunfish said about the fish diet and maybe you could have an ultimate notebook that will help the author learn. Tho when you have learned.... you can abandon it.

I know a bit of the theory, but have never really applied it, bit lazy I guess.

Geez, what a price! Alas, unless someone on here has bought anything from these guys before, I wouldn't waste my money on it.

If it were me and I had access to a friend that spoke Italian, then I'd give them a phone call and find out what the story was.

If it's of any interest to ya, if you use google translate, you can get through all the Italian quite easily, and you find it gets to a secure online paysite. That's a good start...

just translated the page lads. he seems flexible with changing some items for extra cash. the suit is 5mm on the body and 3.5mm arms and legs so not sure how warm it would be in winter, although it is open cell. used the excallibur2000 before(Donnachad uses one) and its a good gun, robust and good in the shallows round kelp. fins seem ok to start off if your just getting started with but can be hard on the ankles as there plastic, mine gave me hell and i had to stop diving for 2 months, then got leader fins(stero waves carbon) which i would recommend to anyone diving deep and long distance. gloves and socks dont look great but again ok for summer use. Overall a good package but as with every bit of gear u buy online u wont know till its wet worth a shot for €225 tho! just my opinion:t

i was looking to order from them last year for friend of my. when go in to check out then is coming surprise .... add 20% VAT + shipping cost is not cheap , and that it looks that you are not saving that much. we didn't got anything of them . better to spend couple extra euros and get proper staff.

Cheers Guys, yeah I translated the page myself too can find very little info on the suit maker on the net or reviews. The gun looks ok as Baldyfish said but I think I will go with gear that has been recommended on here plus I,m sick of givin the taxman money:vangry. The only question now is are camo suits worth the extra dosh ?? I know camouflage makes a difference when hunting on land is it as beneficial underwater ? Maybe thats why the big fish tear off when they see me....... I'm sure it has nothing to do with the bright pink stripe on the suit I currently use ( its actually a water-skiing suit) !

Hy guys ! Just come back from Croatia and Tunisia: 15 wonderful days spearfishing in mild, clear waters !
But it' s time to think of my next holiday in Ireland...
Every "last minute" advice will be well accepted !
I come on wednesday 21st to the "Old head" of Kinsale, guest, with my wife, in a B&B (Tesben house).. Only a gun with me (94 cm.) , good carbonium fins and a heavy swimsuit, for I think water will be just a little cooler than in Tunisia..:t
Is there any prohibition in the surroundings ? Anything I should know not to have problems ?
Of course if somebody wish to share a dive it would be wonderful !:friday
