Thanks guys, ya that was my reply... I know we try to hide in the shadows a little to keep the heat off us, but ignorance might do us more damage, we should keep on good grounds with the anglers.
No harm to give them some background, but I guess the fact remains... what can or should we do with these rogue spearo's giving us a bad name? What happens when they get caught by officials and they start looking hard at us?

no dave i didnt weigh it, my mate reckoned 3 kg but that was after it was gutted. he was only guessing.
i had only seen 2 bass all day the other was too small to take.
reading the other forum talking about spearos clearing out an area i had to laugh. that was my first bass of the year and the only fish caught that day between 4 of us.

Just looked at the by law again S.I. No. 368/2007, in article 4 it says its illegal to take or kill more than 2 bass in any 24hr period...so the spearo in question broke the law even though he gave one of them away. Strange it makes no ban on spearing for bass and only specifically mentions rod, line or weir in the closed season, though I know most if not all of us observe the closed season.
Can anyone see the photos of him?? If so post it up. Name and shame!!!!

No I don't think they were referring to williew. He wouldn't take more than 2 and he spoke of only one spearo. Fishermen tend to take a brush and tar everyone with it so fair play to rob with his informative reply to clear the air.
I can't believe the amount of ignorance with some of their arguments. Saying it's illegal and saying we can clear a coastline in a few sessions. Jesus!!!!! I suppose it only takes one w&£^+r to give us all a bad name.

On a different note did anyone see Monty's Great Irish Escape the other night he was spearfishing.......... well he swam around with an unloaded gun most of the time then fired at a flounder in the sand from point blank range
I haven't seen any of the series yet, what episode is that one do you know...trying to find and view it on BBC's iplayer although its not playing ball yet

so this is one angler talking about 1 spearo killing 3 bass...
But there is another Neil found here Fly N Lure: It's Not Always A Pretty Picture. that speaks of a 'team of foreign spearfishermen that are clearing out area's and one individual boasting to shooting 18 bass in one session...'
Ya I was reading that a few days ago when I came across that pic of shiny1 (posted in devon blog) 4 double figure fish in a row kept for the pot.... not at all illegal but still... techically I should not feel he was wrong.... I know that 5 fishermen fishing that stretch over a week could have caught and kept the 4 doubles but it just smacks of greed and ignorance...

Ok first off Derek its episode 4 broadcast on Thu Sep 01, he also goes tagging blue sharks and visit's the dolphin in Fanore. Sorry for digging up more bad press but I think its better to be aware of these things. I was actually told about that blog by another spearo who does alot of rod fishing. Thanks Feargus for replying we need to keep up the good P.R. When I first saw the pics on WSF (you have to join to see them) I thought wow thats the same suit as Johnny

Hi Vasile, first of all great post and we should all think seriously about this subject.
I´m totally in for it, but probably more around November/December, but having more less like a structure of this eventual course could be also a good idea to "promote" the course himself.
Does anyone know some places and conditions, like in Blanchardstown Aquatic Center, etc. for doing some such event?
Feargus might have some suggestions since that he is a bit more inside "the business"

That's sad...
jesus would have found it hard not to have shot him after that encounter. I would seriously send that vid to the cops, the way he approached head on with the boat was very intimidating. His ID and all is visible and was abusive from the outset. Yer man at the end said it best I suppose "an asshole yeah ?"
