What from Hungry? Or really bloody hungry!!!!You could use some of them as whole bait!!! I have no problems at all with people from other country's coming to live and work in are comunities/ towns but they must learn are language and stick to our laws!ah ah ah !rant! Scream!! What really galls me beside the obvious, is the fact he got a red mullet in Donegal................my fishmonger is from Donegal and he has never heard of it........ It's actually a decent sized one I've never seen one in Irish waters anyone else seen one???

malin beg is in donegal, in ROI not NI so not sure what he was thinking about his geography either.

Ya it's a gurnard. Squarish head and a double beard. Mullet don't have beards afaik.
I presume everybody here has led negative feedback on the video. Seems like the only way this guy will learn.

Oh my.....! Well, I´ve been in Sardinia last weekend just to snorkel a bit and relax.... 24oC water temperatures are always nice aren´t day?... I took my 54€ camera and I got few clips of red mullets (small small ones), one moray eel and plenty of other fishes.

I had good memories about red mullet back home in south coast, it´s always one fish that all year long we get there and the shrimp flavour is incomparable.

I think I might got a picture with a good one somewhere...! Let´s search in the memories box...

It´s not from the salmon family so no problems about being ilegal. The taste is great but is not a kind of fish to eat often in my opinion...!

Howya lads what this screams is education education education. the guy despite his actions doesn't seem to be stupid just ignorant of facts most spearos here take for granted.
The danger of course by highlighting the education you highlight the activity.

yes hard to catch big fish with no weightbelt... But harder without fins...

not sure its fair to have a go at this chap... The only apparant mistake he made was posting the vid. (taking those size fish is ethically questionable... But without the vid we would not be discussing it) That can hopefully be fixed with a private message and invitation to these forums. I am envious of the gurnard tho!!!

But it seems obvious that there are many more beginners like him in ireland who do not post vids that we cannot advise, and they are doing just as much damage...

but we cannot advise them right? We have no spearing body, org, or info source on spearing in ireland... It has been suggested many times... But we have always collectively refused such a plan and decided to keep spearing undercover and out of sight.

To that end we hold partial responsibility for the ignorance of newbs... Is it a fair price to continue our OWN spearing?

Maybe an irish spearing website would not have made a difference.... But he must of done some googling on what gear to buy or what location to go to?

either way, those of us who choose to restrict info, I guess, shouldn't complain bout ignorance...

May be we should take the bull by the horns here to protect are sport before some novice ends it for us all.Could we have a front and last page in(beginner to spearfishing) with some very simple basic ethics of spearfishing .say Ten things you don't do or can do? A reminder for all of us to positively premote are sport .Any ideas anyone?
