Hi denian, this is what we have oin the front of the spearfish section of the shop (kudos Pedro in the pic) Spearfishing
It is defo getting more popular what with Monty Halls doing his thing and a few others. i just hope it goes the right way. Hughs fish fight has advocated spearing as well in his river cottage seires at some point I think. I might be doing a stand at the toys for big boys show in Nov and am considering bringing a gun. My reasons are purely commercial but I think someone will end up doing this in some way and 1 it might as well be me and 2 I will genuinley do my best to see it develops as best I can, I really dont want the ocean pillaged. Hoping to start a debate here lads and will not be offended by anyone having a go at me as long as its constructive and you have a genuine concern which if you are on this forum is probably a given.

I really think we should set up our own website with forums like "deeper blue" but our own IRISH. The reason for that is beginers don't know what "deeper blue is " at all . We should have somthing called www.spearfishingireland.ie that people know straight away that this has something to do with spearfishing. We will have our own landing page with all the necessary information, latest news, trips, meetings etc (exaclly the same as on Deeper blue).

I can set it up myself, do the design and register the domain name I can also host it on my servers. I will do this all free of charge !!! I just want the waranty that you will all use it!!!

I don't want a situation that I spent 2-3 weeks of my life and there be nobody using this!!!

I'm sorry lads but I totally disagree with anyone trying to justify this guys actions. If he had done it on rod and line or on a spear it's completely inhumane the way he went about it.
Bottom line: 1 he took too many
2 he left them all alive
3 there are all tiny and he admits it.
I really can't see how anyone can be lenient on him due to his ignorance of the sport of spearfishing. It's his lack of ethics approach to fishing in general Is the problem here.
I'm looking at the bigger picture here. I'm just very surprised that ANYONE can defend him.
There are plenty of sites for fishing in general where all aspects of the ethics and fair play are outlined. Just because he used a speargun doesn't automatically grant him the "ignorance immunity". How was he to know coz it's his first time spearfishing???? It's not his first time knowing that letting creatures suffer or taking as many as he can is bad. If it is then he is a complete tool.
I'm sorry for this rant but am I alone here?????
I'm seeing this shit way too much. If this happened in a river u can guarantee that something would be done with this moron.

Just had a look at your site about time as I've not found it before!!!.What you have said is the direction I was thinking .Maybe some thing like. Basics for spearfishing.1Never load gun out off water and never point it at anyone loaded or not.2 Try to stay away from people .show discretion cover gun if possible.3 If in doubt of size or species don't shot.4 Despatch fish soon as safe.4 Try fish in pairs one up one down.5 Dont ever push your safe limits time and depth. I'm sure there are lots more and better wording.and correct order.

No easy way to tell u but a sheltered rocky and sandy area usually 6-14m depth. Look for gritty sand not soft sand. It's all about trying different areas. Took me a few years to find them but I do a lot of scuba and stumbled upon them a couple of times and returned on snorkel.

I usually do 2 times a year maybe 12 each time. Keeps them up in numbers.

Also, there are quite a lot in kenmare bay, but a lot of commercial interest there... also more in dingle bay... havent dived there yet, but its worth a look.

If you have 4 scallop sites and take one haul from 2 of them a year (so alternating) I think this would be good... Thats what I'm aiming for anyway...

Looking at the long range... seems to be at least a good week's spearing weather coming up from Oct 3rd.... those bass have been safe enough for too long
