Well we made it down to west cork in the rented camper for the weekend and I got a couple of dives in. we had some great weather and some terrible weather, Saturday was a complete wash out, so it was only sightseeing and plenty of pints , but i managed to get in on friday evening at Gally Head near Rosscarbery and got myself a couple of pollack, not the biggest but they were perfect size for our disposable bbq, and they were tasty too.
It was my first dive with my new suit (mares instinct 55) and i was very happy, not a bit cold , they water was 13 degrees.
Managed another dive on Sunday out on Sheeps head as recommemded by johnnybuoy!, Found 2 scallops in the first 5 mins, i was really chuffed about that, that was starters for dinner sorted! there was plenty of pollack around that i could of taken easily but I wanted one of the big ones, but they were really hard to get close too and very skitish. I reckon my poor breath holds and novice 'stalking' skills were against me too. so after about an hour I just went for the biggest I could get. So that was a nice dinner of scallops and pollack again, so the girlfriends was happy.
Ill def be heading back to west cork again.........
Vasile cant go tomor morn but wud like to buddy up sometime around Dublin if your up for it, evenings after 4 wud suit me this wk.

You will be lucky to see ur hand in front of your face on the east coast tomorrow I had to go to hook head to find some vis today for the second wknd in a row !
Just back from a working holiday in Spain, got a few dives in and the viz was so clear with water temp of 20c. The conditions were ideal for spearing but no sign of any fish of decent size from the shore diving. Tried a beach in Nerja and another on Mijas Costa, looks like diving conditions here have gone to rot for the next few days...did you have any luck in Hook Head Climbingperch?

Howya Derek with the poxy east winds lately Hook Head was the only place I reckoned there would be any vis. Last wknd I travelled all the way down the N11 checking a few spots along the way most you could have surfed......!
The Slade side is always more productive in my experience but it was totally blown out last wknd so I dived close to the lighthouse. As I was getting in I met another spearo getting out in an Omer camo suit so I asked him how he got on, in broken english he said "small fishes only" and then proceeded to show me a mesh bag with half a dozen wrasse and a pollack. I can safely say the total weight of the 7 or so fish was under 3lbs
one of the wrasse was smaller than my hand :rcard . I am sick of trying to correct these guys and just walked off.
There were loads of spiders about and I took the two biggest males I could find saw no fish over a 1lb until a long way out and even at that they were at 12m + I pushed myself to 15m which is at the upper end of my diving. Soon I was surrounded by tons of pollack in the 2lb range but nothing bigger it continued like that for an hour all the fish were very deep and all were small.
Yesterday I just went straight down the wind was less but Slade was still a no go vis had decreased to 8m from 10-12m last week but the water was warmer 11.5 compared 9.5-10. Again lots of spiders found a monster biggest I have ever held but again the pollack were deep and small saw one fish in the 5-6lb range but he was very skittish. Absolutely no mullet about very strange I think someone got there before me just need this feckin wind to change !!
I know, its been predominantly east winds for the last few months...I haven't even bothered getting out in the last few weeks. The sheltered spots around here are only holding small fish not worth shooting though I did see a large school of mullet a few weeks back but again they were all very small and very slim. Tomorrow looks to be ok so might get a chance to get out, think I'll try it at low tide and see if the viz is ok. Checked it at mid-tide today and from the shore all I could see was murky waves with some big "white horses" out around the islands.
Think I'll head west the next time I'm getting wet journey time is about the same for me. I really want a nice mullet tastier than pollack in my opinion herself much prefers mullet too.
SO when is the first spearo wknd of the season ??? Anyone got any thoughts ?

Was out last weekend with zaratustra.had a great diving session
viz was not as good as the weekend before but we made the best of it
Zara did all the work i was only taking photos and videos as my aiming was for the birds!!
missed a few good fish but thats fishing...!!
Most of the Pollock was between 10-12 meters and very calm and easy to come close
we only spent 2 hours in water as we had enough for the table.
