Hey Guys,
the girlfriend has rented a camper van for next wkend for the bank holiday and we are planning on heading down to the west cork area for the few days and i am planning on getting a bit of spearfishing in (especially if my new suit arrives in time). i have never been in west cork at all before and im looking for a few tips on places to go, just in general to see and stay and also potential spearfishing spots( im not asking for people to give me all their best spots just some general areas where i could try). I'd also be up for meeting up with people for a dive on the sat/sunday if anybody from the area is up for it.
Any tips or hints on west cork greatly appreciated!

Head out sheeps head. It's all real good for camping and diving out there. U can choose a lot of spots depending on wind direction and triggers are out there too. Closed season for bass so no point in me telling u where they are;-)
Good pollock out around dooneen pier and nice deep water there to 25m around 50m from the pier.

I've been too busy the last week to get out , then had a wedding in Dublin this weekend, but the next time I'm out in Nohoval I will take an hour out to look for Lobster.
Looks like there is abit of swell around next week so will hang up the fins and dust of the boards.

Only catching up on last few pages now, some nice fish there! Well done. Only had a very short leave so got out once about a week ago and got a spider crab and a couple of scallops. Very noticeable lack of pollock and quite bad plankton bloom. Back offshore now but looking forward to next leave and getting to play with my new boat again!

Seas are a bit choppy here ATM. As Spudlington say's, there's a bit of spring plankton bloom too.

When the wind's from the east Kerry is very tempting. The petrol's a bit expensive though. At the moment I'm finding it a stretch to drive to Sheepshead or Bantry Bay.

Just curious as to your 10mm suit. What is its spec? 10mm all over? Just the body? Who made it for you? The cold is getting to me after an hour or so in my 5mm spearo suit (getting old).

Friday I've been in Mullaghmore and Sunday in Burren, Galway Got 2 pollack and 1 coalfish in Mullaghmore, not big really around maybe 3 lbs the biggest, I really haven't seen more, and then in Galway 3 spider crabs, 2 wrasse and 1 pollock (around 4lbs the pollack), water cristal clear. I regret not speared a massive conger... I spoted the place and went to film it but it disappear...litterally...!! I've seen as well 2 lobbies but it was impossible to get them, although it was a huge huge underwater cave... I marked the place, I would definitly go back, I might seen around 20 to 30 spider crabs there... and the water was just great...!

What was the temperature of water ?

I have a 5mm cressi suit but it has the vest style pants which is a 3mm or 3.5mm slickskin so that gives me 8mm across the torso. But for when its cold I use an extra 2mm vest so I have a total of 10mm across the torso. I then have 4mm socks and 2mm gloves. This setup works very well for me and I only add 5mm gloves in winter but they are really awkard and sometimes give my hands cramp.
