I don't think is in Ireland. as much as I love rod fishing in many years I fish and any my friends in Ireland never ever came across Zander. I have read a lot about this fish as I liked it , closest place they live is southern parts of England .

danas, as you can see on youtube rod fishing is not the best way to fish for Zander!

I think is made up video. in actual swims is not showing any guns and fish shown at first is on a boat . fake video , to get irish angry

Their fins are next to the fish on the boat and the fish is full of holes after the spear.
It looks like they have hit each fish couple of times (just to be sure is death

I believe that at least Vasile will be around and we´ll be around Kerry and a place that we had really good feedbacks about called Beara.... something...personally I have no idea what to expect at all... but we will see If anyone would be interested please just say so, since that we might do something similar to last year. This is also a great opportunity to reinforce the scope of this forums, understanding where are we as spearos and share ideas, experiences, knowledges with other experienced spearos, new starters and visitors. I might be able to bring someone knowed from world of spearfishing in order to advertise all the potential and conditions that Ireland has to offer, so please let us know your oppinions and if you are in or not

Pedro, I'm on holidays for the first 2 weeks of July then i come home and start on the weekend shift for 3 weeks I think the only possibility for me is 29th, but I can let you know closer to date. Have fun

Hi guys,just want to inform you that we are in a process to create our own club of spearfishing in Ireland.Yesterday we had a meeting with the fisheries board were we explain ourself what we do, where we are and we want to cooperate fully with fisheries to protect and conserve our waters and fish stock.At the meeting, myself,Victor from www.underwater-ireland.com ,Dereck aka DerekN,John aka johnybuoy,Feargus from FreeDiveIreland.com - the Irish freediving and apnea scene, brought to the attention of the fisheries officer(Shane O'Railey) the spearfishing phenomenon which is growing in daily bases and our wish is to inform the public,protect the members and educate. The potential visitors spearos must have information easy to reach and most important that Ireland is not the place where you can spear any fish anywhere without being responsible about it.Fisheries board are fully supporting in our initiative as long we offer transparency and cooperation with all the fishery officers.The club will have direct link with the board were you can express your concerns about any violation of the enviroment including illegal netting,pollution etc
The club is created by spearos for the spearos and the next step which we want to take is to have a our voice heard in the underwater council of Ireland(Irish Underwater Council).
Any feedback is more than welcome.

I was reluctant at first to set up the association but with increasing cases of bad press for us involving people with no clue of rules or common sense, I fear an outright ban on the sport. Some fishermen are trying to have it banned so I have heard. It will take on isolated incident for the law to say ban it. They know little or nothing of the sport so a ban would be the easiest option.
My hopes are for this association to be a starting point for clarity in the sport. To highlight all the grey areas that currently exist and to show that we are responsible and conscious of our environment. At the moment we are seen by some as guys who "rape" the seas and it has to stop before the sport becomes tarnished.
The association will not introduce any new regulations but will highlight existing ones and promote safe, sustainable fishing. We will also be recognised by fisheries which will be a great stepping stone in weeding out the few who flaunt the law.
I would like to hear peoples views on the Irish Spearfishing Association being set up as I don't want to create a situation where we may upset people involved in the sport. As I said it's more to promote than to regulate so if incidents do occur in this growing sport that were not all tarred with the same brush.

I think that covers me totally.You are the first to put up an explanation about the role of this group
I remember also that you were very much opposed in previous years
I am backing you all the way but with no new regulations as you mentioned above.
I am experiencing also good communication with fishermen around kerry. me and zaratustra meet a few people when going out and we never had an incident.

Well done guys. This is something I, like most of us, having been thinking about a lot. I feel it is both positive and necessary to protect our sport. Personally I think a federation / association is the way to go. If people want a club style format then they can form localised clubs but an overall body should be of an umbrella body format, eliminating as much of the club-style politics that often occur. It should also be independent of other bodies / training agencies, being seen as a stand-alone body representing a very specific discipline namely breath-hold spearfishing.

lads, how was the fisheries officer about this...was he positive about it or did he have any idea how big spearing is getting.... has he heard any bad stories concerning spearos...i think this association has to be formed...there too much of a grey area around spearing... with proper rules and regulations in place and somewhere we can have a voice can only do our sport good
