Karma, Can be a tool for the the cowards.......

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Re: like a calming water-based lube on the angry and confused currents...

--- I'll pass on commenting about Ted's 'condition'...but to respond to the other questions,
---Yes
---Yes
---Yes
---What is different now is I've learned an inappropriate comment on the 'karma' points is trackable.
That's new information.

---Pass on the vigorous session....but a dive sounds nice

Thank you for clarifying that point, Stephen. Perhaps a simple announcement to the Forum would be in order?

My concern was about an obscene comment attached to a negative karma rating.

Clearly differences of opinion are to be expected....and are not a problem.

Nothing on the internet is actually "really" anonymous. Almost anything can be tracked, although it may not be as simple as "click, click, there it is".

Yes we can track abusive postings, karma, PM's and pretty much most things that go on on the forums or the rest of the DB sites.

I'll be adding some more detail to the Karma info regarding what to do if you receive an abusive Karma comment.

Yes big smurf is watching you!!!!!!!!!!

We all see the blue squares next to each person's name on the left, showing the amount of karma they have -- but, since good karma is blue and bad karma is red, then what happens if a person's karma is a net negative of 700? Do they have seven RED squares next to their name? Might actually look funny! Kind of satanic! Hey buddy, check out my seven RED karma squares! Don't mess with me!

yep, it was unsigned...

See? I just received some negative Karma for my entry last month... and the sun still rose.

Oh, and I was refering to Erik Young.

Man oh man! Someone neg Karma'd "The Sultan of Smooth?" :head No way! :duh

They got more cojones than sense! That is like someone wearing a homing beacon on their back tossing an egg at the guy who's got his finger on the big red LAUNCH button..... Ya just gotta hope that the backsplatter doesn't catch ya! Especially if he sicks half that herd of butler monkeys on ya! rofl

You are right, Sven, what goes around comes around. Ya just can't let it get to ya....

Cheers!

I neg karma'd a swedish guy who bashed cancers in the "what's your sign" thread when I was the only cancer who had chimed in. He doesn't know me but since I was the only cancer who'd chimed in, his comments were obviously directed at me. I didn't sign it or give a reason.

He imediately posted begging to know who or why. whaa whaa sob sob.

From now on I sign all.

But bad karma in real life is most often annoymous because, like the sweedish guy, recievers of true bad karma rarely know why, or they wouldn't be recieving it.

But I do sign all now, because I hate to see grown men, like the sweedish guy, cry.

Personally i find it rude to post the fact that you have given neg karma to other thread implying whom you gave it. The whole idea behind neg karma is to give some 'correction' to the poster withouth shouting it out in public. If one indeed wishes to correct someone else in public, he / she might as well post an answer to the same thread.
Let's try to keep it clean here, no reason for open fights.

Open karma.

The percieved status of having plenty blue blocks may encourage one to excessively agree, suck up to, or defend another etc, but also to share information otherwise tied up.

The fear of getting bad karma may keep things in line, which may become quite ugly if there is no punishment. No one really fears the mentors but it must be quite sickening to get a negative hit, if one takes the community feeling seriously.
Forcing one to sign it will effectively remove the threat and the forums will bubble over with conflict.
I have never given or recieved negative red karma except from someone that called me a "dickhead ' for a dissenting post. The stuff i got was grey and i am convinced therefore that negative karma from a lightweight can be grey.
Usually i think what happens is that a 'regular' becomes incensed with your view point or your harsh crit of his work and goes off and assumes a new nickname and then pelts you with a soggy wad. ( blanks)
Negative karma is mostly not given constructively. Constructive comments of disagreeance are mostly given in the thread. Red stuff is usually vindictive and unsigned. So...

... I think that the best way to control the karma is to open it up to all viewers. ie the thread would have a global karma button at the end of it showing all + and - karma given to all participants in the thread, for that thread, signed and unsigned to date.
Viewers may also be able to decipher using the "dah!" factor who gave good and bad karma. The senseless givers of bad karma would think twice because their thinly veiled attacks will be open to mass public scrutiny and they would fear retaliation or at least diminishing popularity amongst their peers.

Fawning donators of blue stuff would also quit sucking up ( often in the hope of getting the 'mandatory support and return of blue favour', as this too would be subtly revealed.
This would even out the field and the use of karma would be cosmically corrected and effective as intended.

All in all though its good stuff as it is. ( especially if serious threats or crimen injuria can be tracked ) We all love and need a good drama soapie to keep things cooking ...

Skin.
