Mares is back!!!!!!!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I'll second that. Its great to have you posting here.
The Star Liquidskin is on my list of 'masks I need to try in the unending quest for perfection'. I'm a little out of hand with the whole diving mask thing.

I'm not crazy about the X-vision design - liquidskin or no - so my opinion is highly subjective. The Omer masks don't fit me quite right either.

The guns look to be on the the leading edge of speargun ergonomics. Very exciting and cool.

WOW, that gun is sweeet, can't wait to see the reviews, thx for hooking it up Spag

any info on these roducts? I really need to have new mask after loosing my omer alien. I was thinking between cressisub new ochioplus or liquidskin star.

Low volume and comfort is very important as well as field of vision, basically i want them all :head

Anyway, my concern is cressi says that lenses are too close to the eye and may cause problem for me. With my old omer alien mask, my eye lids touched to the lenses and disturb my vision deeper than 27 meters. The silicone is so soft that it deform at depth and need some effort to equalize and gain back my sight. I think i may have same problem with cressi ochio plus.

Mares seemed to solved the problem with using two types of silicone but does it has as low volume as omer alien and cressi ochio plus? On web site it says you will not need as much equalization but does not state its internal volume in terms of ml3.

Any opinions reviews? I don't have those two mask in my country yet to observe them myself.

Murat,

Thanks for your interest in the Star. I don't have the specifics on internal volume, but I will try to find out. The Star is a very low volume mask, and will be very close to the same volume as the two masks you mention above. I personally use the Star mask now and like it very much. I previously used the Samurai (for years), which is very similar to the cressi. But I much prefer the field of vision the Star offers. The Star may have just a little greater internal volume but not enough to notice (at least for me). The great thing about the liquid skin, is it uses a stiffer silicone adjacent to the frame to keep the mask from compressing, yet offers the Liquidskin on your face. The Liquidskin is so amazingly comfortable, especially for freedivers who are wearing their mask for extended periods of time. If you can find the regular (sporasub Star mask) they have the same dimensions as the new Liquidskin Star. This will give you something to compare it to.

We are still looking at a couple of months before we launch the new line here in the U.S. I'm not sure where you are located, but it wont be long....

Best regards,

Zak

thanks a lot Zak for the information. It was really helpfull. I am located in cyprus and waiting for the new product line to arrive.

Cheers...

hello, everybody!

I am also very excited about the new line of mares rubber guns. they look very ˝interesting˝. their new catalogue is due to arrive shortly to my mailbox, so i can give you some more info then. I am seriously thinking of buying either a mares phantom carbon 95 or pathos open pro 100 as an allround gun. i am wondering about the accuracy of the phantom, since it is a completely new product and pathos is said to be quite a sharpshooter.
one question for spaghetti though, considering you stated the price for phantom carbon 95 as 140€ in your GUACO tread. is that from a specific italian store, since in SLO the price for the same gun is in the 190€ range.i am really anxious to know.

No surprise about the price, Petar: Mares is an italian company so it's quite normal that its products have significantly cheaper prices in Italy than in other countries. Second thing, in my Guaco thread I posted the lowest price I could find on all the guns I mentioned. Same guns have higher prices in other stores: I just picked the lowest tags available.
For Mares guns in particular, that 140 euro tag was from a new online store: being new, it's making a promotion with low prices on everything, but no doubt their prices will raise up to normality in a few weeks.
I can post you a link of this new online store. I'm not able to recommend their service yet, cause I haven't bought anything from them so far.

The new guns looked really good, too bad there are no close shots of the muzzle and line release. I also wonder if the is any advantages on picking fiber glass instead of carbon

The gun looks better in real than on the prospects! I saw it and hold it my hands last weekend in Zagreb! I expect a lot of this gun after I saw the test the guy who constructed it shown to me! Mares is back, for sure!!! I will try the gun in the next days and report in full!!!

Well thanks in advance. Waiting for your review
Is it the carbon or nylon/glass fiber version?

It's more than just rumors that after years and years of airguns only, the glorioius Mares brand is back on the market of band spearguns.

Mares is "back"? It's news to me that Mares has ever built a band-speargun/arbalete before.

Cheers

P.S. Please don't mention the hotchpotch from original Sporasub and Imersion components with Arbasten or Phantom sticker on it as an example

Mares is back! the "phantom" is a brand new band speargun! As I know, one of the first band spearguns was made by mares!

If you have been around in this sport for some time you will appreciate that Mares marketed a Sporasub Viper clone under the same name in the eighties.

You must be kidding, the euro band-gun as we know it is essentially of French origin. Italians took a long time to turn from oleopneumatic/spring powered spearguns to arbalete (sic!).

Cheers

Guns , guns ,guns , so many toys and so little time ( big sigh ) . If the reviews are good might have to buy one . Thinking of excuses apart from i want one , i want one , could try " will catch more fish " but used that last time .

I will try to become a picture of this old mares band speargun! My father in law used this gun and he was the one who told be about! Don't get me wrong, I don't know who produced the first band guns and I don't want to say Mares was the first ( I'm really sorry if I said something which was misleading), but the first band gun named when I was talking to hunters , who hunted since the fifties, was this mares band gun. I'm talking about people who are hunting in south Croatia, also remember Croatia was a part of Yugoslavia and it was difficult to become spearguns, only when somebody who was navigating brought one.

Dont let them wind you up Robiz,
It is common knowledge that the band gun and speargun in general was invented by an ENGLISHMANin 200 BC, who in turn stole the idea from a drunken Frenchman, and in 200 AD the Romans took the idea back to rome and it was hidden in the vatican vaults for many years untill sometime in the 1900s the monks got hungry and were spotted spearfishing by a Spaniard, who then took the idea to Spain and thus we now have the Euro design banded Speargun all based on the same principle. to KILL FISH.

Peter.
