... my parents still live in the UK so if you know of a decent priced one there i can buy on credit card and deliver there.they come out or someone does(one of the things you have living in Cyprus is lots of Visitors) in the year.
Thanks again

Peter.
Hi Peter, I actually typed an answer to this on Sat. but must have forgotten to post it. I seem to recall you have family on the S. coast. Portland Oceaneering near Weymouth carry the Superocchio, they also have a website.

Might be worth trying the Omer Alien though. Apnea.co.uk carry them for the UK. I bet they are available in Greece (or Turkey/Italy) too.

Thanks Spaghetti! Yes, better get some fish now!

I also received the excellent Omer glossy catalog (a thing of beauty:inlove /Spearo "porn":)) - oh dear! Check out the new LASER knife. Pity their prices shot up so much in the UK this year :(.

Come to think of it, this isn't my first Omer purchase - I have an Moonlight Elite torch.

Spaghetti -- us poor benighted English speakers could really do with a translation of the Marco Bardi's Manuale di Pesca in Apnea too - perhaps you could offer your service to them?;)
[BTW Do you have any links that might help Grouper Madness out?]

Do you recommend cleaning the inside of the Alien's lenses with something (flame/white toothpaste)?

For grouper madness: buying a mask online will in any case have high shipping expenses from Italy to Cyprus, higher than the mask itself. It is convenient only if you buy more than one item at a time(a mask + a wetsuit or so). Anyway, the following is the cheapest italian online store selling abroad: www.tuttopescamare.it The site is in italian, but you may telephone and they speak english.
Mr. X: with my Alien I did both the flame and the toothpaste trick. Pass the flame of a lighter very quickly on the lenses: if there's any invisible silicone remainings on the glass, you will hear a slight pop-pop sound. Then toothpaste, you know how it works: leave it there for a whole night (use smooth paste: I'm afraid that granular ones might scratch the glass).

----Mr. X, you read my thoughts (is it spelled right? toughs, thugs...). I've been actually minding to offer my service for Bardi's manual in english: strange nobody did before. My brother in law, who is a pretty strong competitive spearo, knows Bardi personally: i may use him as a "contact" (and surely I should read the manual first...)

That's what wives are for! (if it worked with you, i'll try to "forget" some notes on the table about wooden guns...my wife is curious and always reads my notes when i'm not around)

Grouper Madness -- you are one lucky guy. An Omer shop nearby AND a wife that anticipates your needs AND buys you state-of-the-art Omer gear.:friday

[Crafty Spaghetti! Very cunning ;)]

I should try that.. you think my husband will look at the photos of spearguns and anticipate that I want one, or think it's a great idea and get one for himself? rofl

Here's what you do:

Start chasing fish whenever you go diving. If that doesn't work get a fork or something and stab futily at them. Surface out of breath and sobbing heavily then go back at it again. Get up in the middle of the night, grab a mask, a fork and an underwater light and walk, zombielike, toward the nearest body of water. etc. etc.

omg or i could get a ski pole from a thrift shop!

(i would not intentionally ski pole a fish, mind you)

Hi Brianna,
Men are simple creatures compared to women, IMHO. Make sure he is in a good mood :chatup then just tell him what to get & when!

However, if you insist on being subtle, wait until a present is due and help relieve him of the anguish of trying to think of something suitable by saying something like: "Hmm, that 70cm Rob Allen rail gun with 50m stainless steel reel looks really bitchin'. Think of the free romantic Bass meals I/we could get with that!" <-- Note: be specific to avoid disappointment & don't forget to point out what a fine investment it will be. Note the budget for the present increases significantly too because of all the time & energy you saved him -- so get a good one rofl.

One more thing. With either approach, if he grumbles, gently elbow him in the ribs & wink. Can't fail. ;)

rofl I find sitting in front of the TV wearing my mask, snorkel & fins also works. rofl

haha, well i was out spearing with him yesterday. he went out first, and then i took it out after. it looks like in order for us to both be out, we're going to have to get another one. :D i'm still waiting for my mini shadow in the mail...

Hello, I am from Philippines but lived here in Austria and finally, I found a freediving/spearfishing mask that works for small nose asian like me. It is the Mares x-free.
This mask has still long nose but it has deeper base/bottom where your fingers can reach deeper for grabbing the nose for easy equalization. This mask also works for my son(13) and daughter(15) as well.
