Hi all,

When doing a max breath hold attempt (static), what preparation is best?

The first time I did it, I just did two minutes of deep breathing (4secs in, 8out).

Reason I ask is that I also did a test a few minutes after completing a co2 table and managed 2:30 versus using just the two mins warm up where I only managed 1:30

Any advice welcomed.

Cheers.

Do the 2 min warmup then hold for the 1:30 as you did. Then do another 2 min warmup you will get to 2:00-2:30. Then do another 2 min breath up. I’m betting you hit over 2:30. If you then on your 4th try do a 4 min breathe up I’m willing to bet you go over 3:00-3:30.

My typical first hold is 3:00 min. Then I’ll do a 2 min breathe up and 4:00. Then I’ll do a 3rd breathe up 2 min 5:30. Then a 6 min breathe up which is when I got my PB 7:33. This was 2 weeks ago.

Thanks grarena, I hadn’t thought about a multiple attempts building up in duration like that. Would you mind talking me through your breathe-up please? Is 4 secs in and then 8 out okay or do you have a different pattern??

Many thanks.

Well done. Congratulations. In less than a month you will hit 4:00 as long as you keep kids away lol
