New FOM trophy title?

Good idea the flatties cup as a tribute to OMD's talent for flatties, but so far I havent' seen so many flatfish catches posted on a regular basis by forum members in the currently existing monthly FOM contests.
It would be such a pain to entitle a contest in the name of OMD, and then have no entries to it. Or should I be more optimistic?

Plus the forum staff (100% volunteer) is undermanned. Believe it or not, the UK staff members are having hard times to keep the current FOM, FOY and Hall of Fame managed, plus all the Anglo/Irish subforums baby sitted, plus looking after the rest of the forum, ban spammers, edit swearwords, keep in touch with rest of the staff. These duties absorb almost all of their on-line time. Add to it another contest to take care of....

These are my objections to the flatties cup proposal. The idea per se is nice, but it leaves me doubtful on the practical side of it.

Wouldn't it be possible to promote someone else? There are countless responsible people that regularly post and contribute to choose from?

Personally I prefer the OMD Flattie King Title as it is more specific to Dave? Maybe keep ones photos until the end of the year and post when the FoY is being decided?

Great idea to have Dave's name ntegrated into an award though!

Well there lies another issue - OMD did a lot for the forum, some of which is only coming to light now.
Apart from sending endless pms, running the Hall of Fame, making trophies & helping out with the FOM & FOY.
He made more obvious contributions & general help on a broader scale by posting years of experience within his threads & replies to members post.
We cant just replace Dave but, if any one would like to become a staff member & help our community develop, if you feel you have the time & interest, then please put your name forward via pm to any mentor or team leader or Stephan himself.
Deeper Blue is a growing community, if you are interested in helping us grow, then please let us know.

I think by simply adding OMD in front of the existing title would be cool....

OMD Fish Of The Month & OMD Fish Of The Year.

We can custom the pages with a link to more info about Dave ... or something like that?

Or should that be "The Old Man Dave Fish Of The Month"?

I think this is the most sensible idea. We all know who OMD is, and newcomers that don't will be able to follow the link to find out more.

OMD or Old Man Dave? 'The Old Man Dave Fish of the Month' is a bit of a mouthfull, but it does still do the job (and it would still work for me if it was chosen) - but it's up to you Foxfish.

I like OMD, it's familiar, sounds like a title and we all know who it refers to, gets my vote.

I can see where people are coming from with the flattie idea - but surely, if a flattie is good enough, it will win the OMD Fish of the Year anyway (with links to the story of the legend, Old Man Dave).

Dave didn't just shoot flatties, and he admired all sorts of different catches (I think he just preferred eating flatties - Foxfish?).

Dave loved catching plaice but he was an underwater hunter & was successful at catching every edible species.
I could tell Dave that I was planning a dinner party for 6 friends & would love a couple of 4lb bass - he would never lat me down!
However Dave loved small plaice to eat himself, more than any other fish, he would happily give away a 5lb plaice but never a 1.5lb one!
