Hello all!
I'm new to this community, therefore I'd like to introduce myself :)
I am 30 years old and live near Paris, in France. I've been diving for 15 years and have a PADI Divemaster and 3* CMAS level. I have been studying to be a marine biologist, specializing in coral reef ecology, but had no luck with any paid jobs in that field... :waterwork Only lots of fun and pleasure during internships in nice places (Red Sea and Australia). I'm a journaliste now but I think that the sea is calling me back... and I can't resist I guess!
This summer, I attended a freediving course in Corfu, Greece, organised by the European Diving Club (www.european-divingclub.com based in Germany but looking for more members!) and I'm hooked. I will probably need some freediving training tips in the future.
Well, I had a browse through the forum and found it really neat! I hope I can meet people who share my interests that are: freediving for pleasure more than for performance (although it IS nice to get better!), coral reefs, sharks, underwater videography (which I still have to learn...)
See ya!
Micky without an "e" because I'm a girl :)

Hi Micky without an "e" :)
Welcome to DB, plenty of tips here, Subaquticus (another member) is also from Paris I believe. You'll have to tell us about your course and how you got on :)

Well, not quite... I am French AND German! Nobody is perfect! :hmm
Freediving in Dahab sounds awesome, François! Been there quite a few years ago while I was working at the aquarium in Eilat. Indeed good reefs and nice drop-offs.
Alison, my course was really great: 2 weeks with yoga every day and good underwater landscapes to play with (arches, tunnels etc...). Our trainers were Maike Münster (former german freediving champion, a great woman! and Erhard Schulz from the german federation).
For me it was like a rebirth because I hadn't dived for 2 years, but I managed to get down to 25 meters (constant weight) and to succeed in 50 meters dynamic... Not much, but it's a start! Now I have to train... Freediving is really a great way to dive... I've been working underwater for so long (biology and guiding divers) that I forgot how it is to enjoy myself down there :)

You know that is (or can be) so true, I think a fair proportion of us have jobs or goals that prevent us from experiencing the joy of the sea, something I realised myself this last week after a couple of weeks just messing about with a mask and snorkel in the med instead of the relentless early morning dives that have become routine this summer.
The course sounds good :)
French AND German? That will upset them ;)

In French, we call that "capotes anglaises" ! (English overcoats)

Highly interesting linguistic debate !
