was looking for someone to go our spear fishing around the newport beach crystal cove area. just someshore dives. i curently live in pomona but im in newport almost every weekend so if anyone is in the area and would like to meet up sometime and go hunting let me know

We shore dive (and soon to be boat diving) Palos Verdes often.
I will let you know when we got out again. Probably as soon as this monster swell dies down. Newport beach is not too far from PV. About as far as it is from my house, ~30-40 miles.

kool jooljust let me know when you are going out i think istill have a week left for my tatoo to completely heal and ill be good to go. o and i need to buy a new sling for my gun cuz mine snapped. (old rubber)

I too do alot of diving in the laguna area, cresent bay, shaw and divers cove woods cove etc. I try to get out atleast one day on the weekend and now that the time chaged, after work in the evenings is good too. Looking to do some exploring up North like from Leo Carillo down to around Palos Verde area. Always looking for someone to dive and spear with.

I'm in Glendora, not too far from you, I'd love to go and dive. I dont spear (yet) but would like to get started some time.

sounds cool, me and my friend are planning leo carillo this sunday the 29th swell and vis permitting. If you dont spear yet thats cool too. I started and still do, just dive for the enjoyment of being in the water.

alright guys for any one that is in the pomona area im going to be leaving here on sat morning sometime around 9 and hoping i can get there by 10 and spend the day at the beach we can caravan id like to carpool but im originaly from costa mesa so im gonn go home for the day and possibly for the night that night so i wont be coming back here. anyways im gonna go to big corona and swim out to the kelp beds to the right of the shore. i hope that i can find someone there i can meet up with you guys up on inspiration point if you want to have a meeting place. again some time around 10 am im not sure im doing on sunday but if i was to go diving on sunday i would have to go early morning. because i have to be back here in pomona before 4 pm. alright hope to get some more messages and see if i can find a dive buddy.

yea i usually go out on saterday mornings. im planning to go every sat now that i can. umm about the fish that are there it isnt anything special alot of the area is mostly a diving area just for kicks. not much of a fishing area. there are alot of perch there, you can find some nicely sized kelp bass. some calico on the sandy areas. i have seen sheephead. umm idk there is a good aray of fish but not to many that are good sized. it makes it more challenging trying to find one that is well sized and then goin after it. but at the same time frustrating. cuz there are so many small ones that you cant catch and at teh same tiem arent even worth catching.

right on, i too usually try for sat morn. so we will have to keep in touch in regards to the folowing weekends. Just keep searching out the large fish, it is a great way to pass the time. good luck this sat.

looking for freedive/spearing partner with Intermediate-Expert level of experience. Typical hunting is in South Orange County, CA but more than willing to drive the North to South to explore new territory. Snorkel/Freedive and seriously interested parties only need reply.

i am usually down there on the weekends im at school now in pomona but can come down any weekend that you would want to go. i found a nice beach to go spearing havent been there but google looked good. let me know if you want to go

well you already found my thread so you know im in the area.. i am getting my stuff this week, and plan on going out the day i receive it. (im new to the sport).. ive been reading for about 2 weeks on the subject though, and have been rod/reel fishing and freediving for quite some time.

anyway, i am ideally looking for the same types of dives. typically crystal cove, laguna, etc.. so let me know if you go out anytime soon!

we need to start a socal thread.. to keep track of all the locals (SD/OC/LA)

i have seen quite a few, and maybe we could start a multiple page thread that is specifically for trips, meeting up, discussing specific hunting spots, tips and tricks, etc.

where would we make such a thread?

Crystal Cove is great for scuba and snorkeling but is totally closed to hunting. That spot is heavily patrolled. Just South there are some good spots though. So you have no spearing experience at all?

oh alright, yeah i was figuring crystal cove might be off limits, since it is pretty heavily populated with all kinds of families and whatnot.

no spearing experience yet.. i have a friend who talked me into gearing up and getting into the sport.. so i plan on going with him for a few times before meeting up with anyone on the boards (so i dont look like a complete idiot)

living 5 minutes off the sand and having alot of freetime though, i plan on gaining lots of experience this summer and following seasons.

it's not the families, but rather the fact that it is a State Park. You can go guerilla but I don't condone that type of stuff *hehehe*. I heard it is real FISHY there, but again, I don't suggest even trying it there. Just remember that I only hunt to eat so if you are looking to gain target practice, then you might want to find another sport. Fish grow slowly in the ocean and once they are gone, chances are that the next big one is not gonna come real soon. It is better to be smart than destructive...hunt with professionalism and you will gain knowledge well beyond your experience level.
