[News] Vertical Blue 2011 Athletes In-List

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Frankly told, I did not verify the data a lot - this week I've been addding a huge number of competitions (over 40 of them), and there are always some problems during the data conversion. This is exactly the reason why I developped the standardized Competition Sheet that allows trasmitting the data directly to the database, eliminitaing so most of the error possibilities. Let's hope organziers will start using it soon. Will was untill now the only one who tried, but it was a bit too late for him, and there were some compatibility issues (he uses an older Mac Excel version), so finally I had to do it manually from his usual sheet.

I am going to look at it, and fix it of course

OK, I see what happened - there were some inconsistencies with names, during the importing of the data batch, and I had to restart it several times. Some performances have overwritten the ones already imported, and mixed up together. I'll remove the competition entirely, and re-import now to fix it.

I apologize for the confusion.

Thanks Ivo for compiling the results. There do seem to be some weird things in the stats, all the dates are 2007, Carla is shown with a red card on 49m but full points (actually white card).... and I'm not sure why each list starts with a high performance, goes down to a low performance, then jumps to a high performance and decreases again...(i.e. men, women, CWT)? Maybe I misunderstand ?

OK, the year is fixed, Carla is back white, and couple of other similar errors are fixed too (i.e. Natalia was shown as blacked out at the final easy 80m CWT).

As for the ranking within disciplines, I admit I need to make it somehow better comprehensible, because it may be confusing. Or I have to add several choices of sorting. However, this is a problem only at competitions where athletes can perform more than once in each discipline, and since there are only very few of them, I did not bother too much about it.

In such case the algorithm is made so, that only the best performance of each athlete counts. So at the top there are athletes as they rank in each discipline, and below that there are their remaining performances listed in descending order. I need to put a separator there - currently the ranked and the duplicate performances can be distinguished only by the rank column - if there is a ranking number, the performance counts, if not, it is a duplicate.

You can see it better when you choose the mode "best performances" or click here: APNEA.cz ranking - Vertical Blue 2011

However, you are perfectly right that it is not very comprehensible if you do not know about the way it is sorted, so I really need to separate the duplicate performances from the ranking ones better, and I also need to add a plain sorting by performance (which is in fact there, and much simpler to handle, just not simply accessible on the competition page)

Thanks, Don :)

The separator line for the duplicate results is now there, so I hope it makes it a bit less confusing than before with all glued together:

It works at all competitions with multiple performances of the same competitor in the same discipline. I did not test it much, so hope it will not wreak havoc elsewhere. If you notice some weirdness anywhere, please let me know.

thanks Trux for the posts and everyone for your wishes and support. It was a great comp with an exceptionally congenial and cohesive group of athletes. It was fun to have Aida pres. Kimmo Lahtinen and Linden Wolbert judging. Thanks also to William, Brittany, Brian, and Jeannette for all their organizational efforts.
I am very proud to have participated in this exemplary display of sportsmanship and great freediving accomplishments.
Carla
