The trick is to just catch the silver flank of a bass, then imeadeatly take the torch beam off the fish, however keep it just on the edge of the light so u can still just about see it's reflection. you then need to determine the path of the fish dive down without a splash and get in front of it's path and wait....you often need a very good breath hold and be overweighted to stay on the bottom in shallow water.
But surely even after the above you still must have to shine a torch at it to see it and take aim ?
The next pic I post Clarke will be of a British Isles record Gilt Head Bream ,I've seen him already ,and i hope to see him again very shortly,he was the size of a dustbin lid,we don't shoot stringer fulls of Bass over here, were limited to 2 in any 24hrs,sorry to disappoint .Lol....Jealousy jealousy........where's your halfwit pics!
What an exciting life you lead !yes goodluck fellow spearo
I did take a look back through all your amazing catch reports....Greg your gilthead record is safe
Although I have absolutely no experience of night spearing I have done a fair amount ( through my profession)of night time vermin control with a rifle and I can assure you that shining a torch in the eyes of a rabbit or fox does not render them frozen, they learn very quickly that a bright white light whisked around the fields means danger and pretty soon bolt. If you are very careful with the light and only just illuminate your quarry with the very edge of the beam or even the dull bit of spillage around the main beam then your results increase exponentially. It's not hard for me to conceive that shooting fish at night especially those that are active and patrolling would behave in a similar fashion. Now underwater night vision may well be different!!! My 2 pence worth.Whats the general opinion on night diving lads ?
A fellow Spearo classes it as akin to poaching ,as the quarry cant see you as your blinding them ,similar to lamping Deer or Rabbit, and as I don't fully agree with him ,its a very fair point.
Thoughts .........
It's not gay if you beat them up after, so might need both!!If you two were in a room together I wouldn't know whether to provide nurofen or ky jelly
The next pic I post will be of a British Isles record Gilt Head Bream.
We'll see .This sounds remarkably like bull sh*t.
I think you might be speaking alone here mate...you use the word " we " but that is out of context...you are hardly the spokesperson for the whole of Ireland. The next pic I post Clarke will be of a British Isles record Gilt Head Bream ,I've seen him already ,and i hope to see him again very shortly,he was the size of a dustbin lid,we don't shoot stringer fulls of Bass over here, were limited to 2 in any 24hrs,sorry to disappoint .

you asked for thuaghts on night diving? the fact is, it has it's pro's abd con's just like any form of our chosen sport.
I can catch double figure fish day or night. both I would say are euqually challenging.
spearfishing is a great past time that is not only sustainable...it keeps us all fit mentally and physically.
some divers are more successful than others and utmost respect goes out to them all...the green eyed monster is not a healthy monster for a man to carry.....
