Night Spearfishing

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
damn it...I figured you crawled back under your stone ;).

you're probably best of starting another antagonistic thread now, as yet again you have lost this one.

TBH I'm surprised that you haven't been banned from thus forum; nothing of value to offer and only post up antagonistic threads.

ooooohhh!! What's this I just had? a double figure DAY shot bass!!! and I must say it was a hell if a lot easier than at night. full report in Dorset thread.

point being (again) is that all aspects of spearfishing present own challanges. so stop bitching to other spearos and just get some fish and enjoy life!!

Read again real slow ,I do speak for the whole of Ireland ,''We'' as in all of us ,by law can only shoot 2 Bass in any 24hr period by law ,so yes,i am the spokesperson for all Irish speros in that context ,or all Irish speros abiding by our conservation rules and regulations .

I'm jealous of Warren Buffett ,you don't figure, that would be sad ,real sad.

Looking at the time of this post I don't suppose you have just got back from a night dive!! roflmao:)

for all you genuine night spearos that have a sense of humour, not easly offended and can take a bit of banter....I have started a UK spearfishing without the aid of daylight FB group, myself or one of my admin will have to approve you.
lot's if useful information, tips tricks, catch reports, photos, locations and vis reports.

Hi Speerolee, we prefer it if folk keep their spearing discussions on the DeeperBlue forums.

All: Discussion is good, controversy is okay - but we prefer it if folk keep it respectful, friendly is better - if you can manage it, polite/humor is good. Please bear in mind, not everybody will share your perspectives/opinions, no matter what they are - so, please expect that and make allowances for it.

I agree with MR X in many ways , also there would be very few ( even less than now !) catch reports if the Nocturnal ninjas stop posting . Controversy ?.... Life would be a bit dull without it ...... Also the sponsors who sell torches and batteries would lose out !!

Ask your self's why your spearfishing, is it a sport or is it a means of getting food on the table. Doesn't make a difference if its day or night, if it's more productive at night then your family eats well.
This unsporting sh!te is a load of boll@cks

dyl12321, you can't really say that, there are two groups, you are right, one hunts primarily for food and the other primarily for sport, but it is not correct to say what you said at the end. For many in the sporting group, night spearfishing is unsportsmanlike. The food group feels attacked by this but your goal is not the same so why do you care what others say?

Spearfishing at night or with scuba gear for that matter makes it easier to catch fish, which is why the people in the food group have no issue with this since their goal is to catch lots of big fish to feed their families. For the sports group they see it as an unfair advantage against the fish and thus unsportsmanlike.

People, just accept there are two primary reasons for spearfishing and stop fighting each other. Maybe if people stated their primary reason for spearfishing on their profile and when they reply to threads like this one things would be less aggressive..

Personally I spearfish for sport, it relaxes me and even if I catch nothing I am happy, the fish were better than me that day, I lost and they won. If it is too easy one day then I am not satisfied either, there was no hunt. I do however understand that for some it is the opposite.

Peace and may all enjoy their spearing for whatever reason they do it.

For whatever reason you decide to go spearfishing it dosent bother me. I consider shooting birds a sport and I see your point about it being unsporting.
As long as nothing is going to waste im not fussed

I totally agree. I've been using this forum for many years now and to start it was fantastic, however lately I cannot help but to notice a growing 'bitterness' towards night spearing and especally myself in particular.
I fish all year round throughout even the very coldest of evenings.
I have continued to post catch reports and kept threads going during the leanest months. but the resentment towards my success seems to be growing and has even spilled out onto my FB personal profile from BSA members which I will not name.
I have always stated that I fully respect other spearos and their chosen methods.

the reason for my FB group is to avoid further bad feelings growing and getting somewhat personal.

I've never read anything from a night spearo slating day divers for using RIBs and GPS? that's because we respect all other spearos.

it is easy to blame others when unsuccessful. not unlike rod n lines blaming gill nets etc...day spearos aren't having to much sucsses this year....and I've heard "these night stalkers are just raping our spots and cleaning them out of fish" which is absolute rubbish. the fact is that this year has been hard goung for all, I dive 3 nights a week and my avarage duve time is 4-6 hours...which is pretty much dusk till dawn! I deserve a few double figure bass....don't I?

last night I drove 3.5 hours...in at 10pm out at 4:30am...a few bass and mullet to 8lb and a lemon sole. pics on my closed group.

Bro. I have gill nets but never use them any more.
I agree lee, lots of bitterness about everything.

yes..Unfortunately it seems to be the way in a few modern men.
At the gym you will put in 2-3 hours 5-6 days a week with correct diet etc etc...you get results, others put in a half hearted 45mins twice a week with beer and kerbabs; wonder why they haven't seen results and just accuse you of taking steroids!

A man sucsessful in his chosen game is a hard working, commited and dedicated man. not a cheat.

Stick me firmly in the Sporting gang Gab,i'm also an avid Deer stalker and Salmon flyfisher man ,unfortunately their are Pot men in every form of game/field sports. As an old stalking companion of mine said to me one day after we met a fellow stalker(pot man) from the joining estate ,who had shot 4 Sika stags on the opening morning, ''you can get out of need, but you can't get out of greed'' .

Yes, but not at night - that would be unsporting.

I wouldn't categorise myself, put myself in a box so to speak.
I am an individual with my unique skill set.
purely for food? then I would just set a gill net, go to bed and reap my reward of 100 kilo of bass.
if I wanted purely sport I would fly fish from the shore line for bass.

6 hour swims to the remote headlands hunting in the kelp with a single tipped speargun and torch followed by long cliff path walks back to the car, in my opinion is very very far from unsporting.

I enjoy the thrill and sport, but also like to take enough fish to feed my family...let's on a best night 5 bass at 2 kilos each 10kilo of meat. 4 sika deer stags are how many kilo? or if you just take 1 deer?

I did watch a you tube vid once of a spearfisherman taking a mountain goat that got to close to the waters edge...arrowloopboy was that you??? ;) ;) ;) 'banter'
