Happy New year to you all.Hope this year proves to be the best. Blue sky, calm blue sea, and lots of fish. What do you say?

Hi guys.

I'll be watching this thread with great interest. I am a keen kayak angler fishing mostly around the North West, North Wales and North East but this year I really want to get into spearfishing mainly around North Wales and Anglesey as I am located in the Greater Manchester area...

I did do some basic spearfishing when I still lived in SA but that was a long time ago so basically starting from scratch, if anyone have some tips spearfishing around North Wales it will be appreciated and hopefully meet-up with a few guys over the coming months etc.

I intend to go from shore and kayak whenever I get the chance, I have a few spare kayaks for those hard to reach marks so if anyone ever wanted to have a go I am sure we can sort something out...

Regards.
Chris.

Welcome yo DB Pro Fisha .There are a few spearos up your way so you should be able to meet up with any off them or stop on the way and meet up .Hope to meet up soon as conditions allow .I have lots of kit you can try out to see if its for you.as its a demoralizing sport at the start don't expect to see anything never mind shoot or hit any thing!LOL.Ask away or look round the other posts for info.PM me sometime. Ian

Thanks for the kind offer Ian. I'll have a good read through all the relevant topics before asking the obvious. I know what you mean by that it can be demoralizing when starting out but that wont put me off.

I still need to buy all my gear and have some idea of what's needed but as with my kayak angling I learned that buying the right kit saves a lot of hard-earned cash down the line so still need to do some more research etc, especially around the spear guns and can't make my mind up whether to go for a 5mm or 7mm suit.

Regards.

I have a spear gun you can use and try my others too. a 5 mm proper spearo suite is a must maybe with a vest or shorty under or over just for the really cold months .spearo suites with built in hood are fantastic after surfing and diving for 20 odd years I'm kicking my self that I've never had one sooner.3/5 mm socks n gloves depending if you feel the cold or not .fins floats masks snorkels the list is endless.ask around meet others you may not need to buy much !

I'll take you up on the speargun at some point, thanks. I am leaning towards a 5mm made to measure suit from Elios. I'll have a play around with a few spear guns and see what's what, mask and snorkel is no probs just have to look at some fins. Is there any place special you guys buy your gear from. Dont suppose there is any shops up here to go to?

The shops for spearfishing gear are few and far between .Antony at venture sports I'm sure will help as well as being one of our main prize suppliers. Alpena as well. There's diveinn but the postage is a killer.there two dive shops in Manchester .mikes? in Warrington who's spears friendly frogs born in Chester by airospace and the dorset boys have set up shop lately .look in the items for sale section there's some good kit if its your size .but bare inmind you can get a new 5mm for £140 or less prob!.....and decathalon if you look carefully what's on the web site is not what's in the shop can pick up some cheap bits.

North Wales does not need a new thread - continue with the old one.

Went down the Llyn today left before light.South side fresh southerly wind with pounding 2-3 foot mush lots dead weed mixed in with it .mist ,fog ,rain .Went down north side brightened up going over Nefyn way strong off shore wind but flat in sheltered coves but swell wrapping round from east some nice clean surf .Masses of weed and man made rubbish piled in gullies .Nill vis inshore very milky but blue 50 to 100 m out .Hill fog mist and grim coming back over rivals .Trevor was gravy brown with surf on corner with tops being blown off by local mountain induced gale off shore.Nice to go down and have a rummage around for a few hours. So no scallops to be had !

They lie on the bottom pretty much motionless, close your eyes and use the force Luke...

nice array of guns ! I have opted for two spears to save cash, for my 75cm gun one double wrapped and one single, i also have another 16mm band i can add if i ever get to use the double wrapped spear . How short is your shortest gun denian ?

Also thought these looked interesting ? Quiksilver Heat Vest Mens | Buy Online at SurfMountain.com

Would possibly enable you to wear a 3mm pherhaps as i personally find my 5mm an ordeal to get on and off and quite restrictive when on.

A dive buddy of mine wears one beginning and end of season always make me look silly sat on the boat watching him enjoy himself!

Thanks will I like your thinking with two spears single and double wrapped sneaky and your have a spare spear just in case !vest looks a bit pricey think id just get some 2 quid hot packs if i was really cold .you shouldnt be fighting to get in to your wety lube it up and just slip it on in seconds..ish once youve cracked its a dodle ... um i head but the wall...LoL.. the little one a 45 its smaller than my fins hand to carry and handle, pack, load and shoot . will do about 3.2m max plus arm lenght .it my fav gun use it most of time.any one seen the sea been near?

yeah i bet a small gun like that is easy to handle/load . maybe il get one soon. Cant really justify any more purchases till i start putting fish on the table ! More struggle getting the suit off really .

Man if you think wrestling with a 5mm is an ordeal you should try a 7mm!! I'm used to mine now but first time I tried on ( up from my 3) I wasn't prepared for the effort required and half way on I thought I was gonna be found half in, asphyxiated on the floor and have to be cut out of it, lol.
Now i'm used to it, its simples, nice and cosy like, but not restrictive, I can't wait I get back in it
