I have been pretty lazy recently and along with my laziness I have had a couple of unfortunate sessions where everything seemed to go the wrong way. Yesterday seemed to be the same again. Went in and the water was very murky on the edge of being un-fishable. No much wish to be there trying to look through the suspension some shadows. Saw some small fish here and there and just got a couple to make the trip worth at least a couple of meals. My only hope was the tide, the hope that it would have brought some cleaner water and hopefully at least 2-3 meters. And so it was, after 3-4 hours finally some visibility!!!! As soon as the water cleared the fun started with large schools of enormous mullets with the odd bass hidden in the school. In Italy we say: every mullet shot is a bass lost and in fact the mullet resulted in the larger bass of the day gone. Well, still managed to get these two nice ones and heard some big ones bolting around me. Luck is back!

I like the fact you made the effort to kill your mullet but recommend using your knife to cut the gills as this not only kills the fish pretty quickly but also bleeds it quite efficiently.
I don't like blood in my fish.

Can I recommend that you put the fish on the stringer before you take them off your spear. I've had fish that I thought were dead spring back to life and put up a bit of a fight, you don't want that to happen when it's off the spear and not on your stringer.

Ditto, learned the hard way! I use my stringer to dispatch then string them straight down through. Kills two birds with one stone if you like. Great vid Ian, keep it up.
Thanks boys I only did it on this occasion because I could hold the gar in my hand and I had already knifed it but took it off so I didn't cut my spear line .as the line went through so close to the eye/head area.I think the camera being mounted on the gun amplifies the noise from around.and the mullet just happened to drop in 2-3 m from me .more vids to come.
Good effort and funny video Ian. Just a question though. Why do you go fishing in such places? I don't wonder why you didn't get fish!!!!! It's all flat, sandy and EMPTY! No even the alien of the leyn was there! loooool
I wondered this as well...Usually if I see this kind of weed with no movement I put my head down and swim hard as I never find fish in places like that. Nice video though mate!

I was wondering the same, it took me a couple of seconds to work out where you were as I'd never thought of diving there. A little further to the East looks nice and rocky but I wouldn't bother trying it unless I'd taken a boat round.
Saying that, I do love a nice shallow shore dive and and you never know what a new spot will produce so it's always worth trying - the big bass Daf & I had back in June came from the most random spot where I doubt anyone would ever think of spearing - we did have the boat though which always opens up more spots.

Could not agree more! It reminds me of that terrible dive at Porth Colmon! Just miles of deathly still seabed.
