My fins and my phone now.I am planning to buy a VHF radio though. Since I don't have it, if I drive off shore I always keep an eye on my phone to check if it has signal.

I was down from Thursday till Monday, only managed three very short dives as I was managing a stag-do with 20 guys.
Jumped for a very quick dive on the high on Thursday morning, the water had terrible viz but was alive with bait fish, they were there in their thousands. Just a couple of meters off shore I was surrounded by hundreds of small mackerel chasing a solid wall of white bait - pretty cool to watch, despite the horrendous water.
I was mainly after mullet for the BBQ so kept to the shallow weed in around 8 / 10 feet of water - I couldn't see the bottom at all so went for the 'crawl & hide' method, where I crept along the bottom from spot to spot, pausing at anything that looked like a good ambush point. It was my first dive since the start of June and was pleased to come away with four plump mullet - filleted and skinned (essential, IMO), they were superb on the BBQ. Everyone who tried it loved it.
I had the camera rolling and captured 3 out of 4 shots which I'll put up at some point.
That evening, I had some nasty chest pains - I drank though it that night but woke up the next morning in serious pain. I think I've torn / pulled / strained a muscle or tendon in my ribs - very similar to what happened to me in June - something to do with chest loading my short gun - very odd.
I manned-up and made the most of a break in my stag duties and headed off to a North Coast spot on the Friday morning - there was some annoying swell and low viz but I got in anyway. My chest was screaming and breathing up was all but impossible but I still managed a decent bass and missed a shot at a nice sized Gilthead Beam which I reckoned was maybe 3lbs, pretty good for N. Wales.
The next few days was taken up with beer, beach and coasteering around the Porth Dinllaen headland, which far exceeded my expectations and was amazing fun.
I managed to get in on Monday but had missed the tide at my chosen spot by almost 2 hours. The water was clear but it just didn't feel 'fishy', apart from a couple of shoals of good mullet which I let swim by, I didn't see a thing apart from some Garfish.
I swam out deeper to 'The Wall', which is a massive, string weed wall coming off a headland - it was beautiful dive but I didn't see anything apart from two, lone, very large mullet - I grazed one with the spear which left a few scales floating in the water but didn't connect. It's an odd spot, one best fished at low tide, when the fish follow the wall and can't swim over it. A lovely dive though, I didn't even mind that it was my first blank of the year, was pretty pleased with my bottom times which were almost up to 2 minutes.

Very jealous of these reports! I'm thinking of heading down on Sunday anybody from the Manchester area want to come along?
On a different note I need some new bands for my gun does anyone know any five shops in the local area that stocks them or can recommend an online store that doesn't charge a fortune for delivery?

I have just bite the bullet and ordered some from apnea have bought from them before but the postage on a pair of bands does sting a bit, my gun is a 110 (I think). I had a look on Nadir too but they did not have screw ins and the rubbers on spearfishingstore are pretty pricey.

I've just been having a trawl through my videos from last week, about 20 seconds before I took my largest mullet in the low viz - two really nice Giltheads swim straight at me, I didn't even see them!
I had the camera near the end of my gun and the gun at arms reach so in the low vis, they might not have been that visible to me - I was probably looking in the other direction! It's not a great picture due to the viz, this is just at the point at which they bolted so you get a side shot - it's about 2 meters from the camera so looks like quite a good sized fish - the one behind it, which you can't see in the picture, looked a fair bit bigger.

Dived today with JonK, had a great dive saw lots of big mullet but left them alone. Saw three lobster but all were small or soft following moulting but it was great as that the first time in 6 years spearing that I have seen lobster. Came away with two bass of 6lbs and 3lbs. JonK had a bass and mullet too.
