Hi Stephan, I know - in fact we have already deleted bass assassin once but when I reset the password on the Matt Barlow account it seemed to re- start the Bass Assassin account. If you must delete one i would prefer to keep the Matt Barlow account but I will need a new password for it. cheers
I have deleted Bass Assassin and all posts now appear under Matt Barlow. I have also asked the system to reset your password. Please use the contact us form if there are any issues.

I think you should chill Dario ;) - from my experience, fishing in the day is FAR more productive. Have you ever even been on a night dive in the UK? I'm not sure you have. Maybe down South it's very productive but in N.Wales, it's not that great.

Yes, shooting a fish in the dark when you're shining a torch at it is not very sporting but then you would happily shoot a bass that's sleeping in the kelp, wouldn't you. What's the difference? I can't see any.

If a fish is asleep, that's even less sporting than shining a torch at it.

Getting cross because a few people take a few fish at night is really a bit silly. I understand that if people are going out and taking huge hauls of fish, then that's not that cool but the odd one, I can't see a problem with it.

Let's be fair, in reality, you take more fish than all the North Wales spearos on this forum combined. I'm not quite sure that you're the one who should be preaching!

I'm totally chill mate, just expressing what I think about night diving. If there will be ever a spearing regulation in place, just expect that to be one of the first things to go.

I don't personally look for bass asleep, I know where they could be and I don't go very often to look for them anyway. If you have seen my videos you can see I don't do that type of diving. ;)

The amount I catch is another argument and doesn't have anything to do with night diving. They are two different discussion. We can talk about that if want. No problem for me. :-)

I think if there are going to be spearing regulations the first will be a 2 fish limit. That will stop certain individuals taking too many fish day or night.

We don't have an issue with night dives in this country at the minute either from a health and safety perspective or from a fisheries management perspective so I don't understand why people would call for a ban; other than through ignorance. Just because you choose not to do something does not make it wrong for somebody else to do it as long as there is no harm to others as a consequence.

I hope a 2 fish limit isn't enforced. I don't get to dive as much as I would like because I live far away and freeze any extra bass I catch to eat later.

I am with you but I think that would would come in before a ban on night diving. I am not really sure that spearfishing is really big in terms of political agendas so I would be surprised if any regulations were brought in.

But if you wanted to protect fish stocks it would make more sense to have a catch limit rather than ban night diving. I will generally take two or three fish on a dive - day or night. It would have to be a remarkable dive for me to take more. Some people take a lot more than that regularly.

Likewise if you struggle to get to the coast frequently then it's nice that at the moment you can go day or night and stock up the freezer. We all need to be responsible in our approach and I think that most people in here are.

Hmmmm say no more! Lets get back to the sea boys ,I see the sand mountain at the end of Pwllhelli harbour has gone either back in to the sea at the far end of beach down by golf club or in the lagoon to reclaim land either way think the viz is going to be effected ?will try north side or deep south when I get down mid week?Anyone down ?its looking good.

I'd be shocked if night diving was banned - the number of spearo's in Wales is maybe 40 - 50 max, the number that night dive regularly might be 2 or 3 - we're talking minuscule numbers of people. If spearfishing does have regulation, it will be in all likelihood to do with spearguns being classified as dangerous weapons. I'm pretty sure that as far as lawmakers are concerned, weird men in rubber who like poking holes in fish with spears are exactly the same in the dark as they are in the light. Are people going to try and ban rod and line fishermen from fishing at night because it's more productive? No.

We are not like the Med where spearfishing is popular. In the UK, the number of people spearfishing is so small, we (even you!) can physically make no impact on fish stocks. Trying to regulate spearfishing based on our ecological impact isn't even a logical discussion.

In my experience, any good spearo will catch a lot more fish in the day than they will at night. The UK is not like the med where the water is crystal clear and you can see the fish from 30 meters away with a torch - when you're chugging along in the murk in 2 meter viz getting battered by the swell in the shallows, I assure you, it's not that easy.

I don't think you've ever been on a night dive in the UK have you? :D

To take some of the pressure off bass - consider going after different species. Although bass is good, it is not the only fish &, for me, not even the best tasting fish. On one memorable holiday I tried to vary things and managed to get: 2 bass, 2 grey mullet, 2 pollock, 2 mackerel (with a rod - although I have speared mackerel), 2 large ballan wrasse - which was a much fish as we could eat, including one to take home. "The Noah Challenge"(TM): "2 of everything but no more than 2 of anything."

Very good approach. I personally don't like some species so I don't shoot what won't be eaten and 5 bass is about as much as I take (if I'm lucky.) I do shoot some like large pollock and make fish cakes. But generally all the spearos I have spoken to loves and respects the sea more than anyone else so tend to only take what is needed. If everyone had the same respect as we did there wouldn't be a problem with stock population.

Isn't the scallop season is closed from the 1st of April? Or is it the 1st of May?

Apparently the water is warming up well, we're 2.5 degrees warmer than this time last year - I heard 11 degrees in the straights, not sure I believe it mind!

I don't know about anyone else but it was so cold last year, I didn't bother going to the sea until the very start of June - even then, the water was freezing!

Saying that, Daf and I had the best bass fishing we've ever seen in North Wales, both coming away with PB, day caught, N. Wales bass.
