Dafydd's video doesn't tell the whole story! Never fear, the DafyddRees & Broseidon spearo dream team NEVER blanks!

Day 1

True to form, the viz was shocking - I arrived on the South Coast on Thursday sans Daf to be greeted by this:

The viz was truly awful! Undeterred, I got the boat out and motored off to my favourite spot - the boat BTW, is amazing with two people, not so amazing with 4 people with full dive gear.

On arrival at Spot X, I was straight into the fish - the main problem being that the viz was around 2 feet and I could only just make out the end of my RA70... I spied a lot of mullet and a few bass (one really nice sized one) but had no chance to get the gun on them before they disappeared off into the filthy water - after about 10 fruitless shots into the murk, while sitting on the bottom, I made out two silhouettes against the light filtering in from above - boom, the first fish of the year was on the stringer, a lovely sized mullet:

After that, it was getting time to get home so I took a trip far offshore to the Lobster Palace in hope of a juicy crustacean or two - I was rewarded with two very lovely brown crabs:

Day Two

After a rather late night and a couple of tipples with Daf + wives, we headed out on the rising tide to Spot Y with the full intention of loading up with fish - it was not to be as we were greeted with murky, fishless waters, the only interesting thing being the shoal of bass Daf saw in the video he posted.

Off on the boat, we decided to fully explore the bounds of Lobster City, after much ferreting under boulders, we came out with these three lovely beasts, plus a rather impressive anchor and chain:

After that we headed into deeper waters to explore new grounds, these proved fishless but we still came away with a monster Spider Crab - easily the most delicious crustacean of the trip:

By now, it was getting dark so we decided to do a final dive at Spot X - it was almost pitch back but using our superior spearo skills, we were still able to spot the crafty mullet swimming mid water in the moon light (no torches!) - so more silver in the box! ( One fish missing a head and tail - better for freezer space! )

Day 3 & Day 4

Due to the horrible wind and shocking viz, spearing was cancelled for remainder of the trip - we found a secluded cove and spent some great time messing around, cooking and drinking beers while the sun set - a perfect end to a great trip away.

Just so people know, the temperature difference between North & South coasts was huge - the South was genuinely warm while the North was positively freezing!

If the company has messed up, they have to pay for the shipping back and send you out the suit you ordered at no extra cost, they can't force you to accept a partial refund. I'd get them to send you the open cell you ordered.

So you know, it might not be quite as warm (I've never tested and doubt it makes a huge difference) BUT getting into a nylon lined suit is a joy as you don't have to lube up.

Cheers Broseidon, yeh it is easy to get into, but i keep reading they are not as warm and more restrictive. It does feel more restrictive than my other. If they had messed up the colour I could of lived with that, but i'm sure this will effect the suits performance. But maybe not.. if anyone else has any advice it would be appreciated? Cheers.

Hi Chaps
I need your opinions if you don't mind....
I ordered a 7mm open cell suit a couple of weeks ago, it arrived today & it's nylon lined! I've spoke to the company and they are offering a partial refund for me to take the suit. It fits a treat but i'm concerned it wont be as warm as open cell interior as Im skinny & get cold easily! your opinions would be appreciated? My diving to date has been done in north wales, with a donated open cell suit that is not a great fit and patched up and I froze my b@!!@£$ off, so i've nothing to compare to. Cheers.

I think there's a few things you need to tell us: which suit did you order (make and model), which did they send you, how much did you pay, how much is the suit they sent you and how much are they offering as a partial refund?

I find a nylon lined suit much more difficult to get into than a well lubed open cell, which should slip on nicely and a fair bit warmer. Also nylon in and out ones take forever to dry hung up in the garage. Send it back I reckon

Nice work boys, V impressive!!!

Hey Will..... lightning storm, water....metal stick....... er.... what is it you do again.....? ;-)

I had carefully calculated the cross sectional insulation properties of my suit against the relative density of the water etc etc and decided it was safe !! Well I was a good 10min swim and 10min walk from the safety of the car when it hit so I figured I was as safe where i was as anywhere and carried on fishing. I certainly felt safer at the bottom than on top.
