OMER's NEW GUNS!!!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.

Hey mundial, i love the med cammo suit, could you please tell us a bit more about it, i mean warmnes, confortability and durability?
 
the mimetic suits are:
very smoth to wear
elastic but strong outside
good body shape & cut
camo colores are great it seems to work with all the colors i try
not just the camo colors also the texture is unique
junction stitches are protected with glue & lycra round sticker!!
a very good choise i think
but for Baja Mexico U better take the ocean mimetic suit
 
You got a piont here man, the water is so warm that we must order a ´med-weather suit instead!!
 
I'm not sure if the new OMER stuff is already widespread in Europe, but I noticed that the Cayman HF just became offered on Subprof. I was going to put my name on the pre-order (waiting) list, but then I painfully remembered that Subprof won't sell any OMER products to customers in North America. :naughty

So for all of you fortunate enough to live outside of North America, there you go, buy all those new Cayman guns so that we have to wait another 6 months in North America.

Er, can someone over there order one for me and ship it to Hawai'i? Hehe.

I could, but I don't think it would be such a good deal for you:
1) Shipping cost from Italy to Hawaii is about some 70$ (that's discouraging, isn't it?)
2) moreover, IF something's wrong with the gun and you need it to be changed or serviced, the warranty won't help you that much since you'll have to ship it back to Europe and explain the situation in a foreign language to a store administrator living two oceans away from you...Naaah! :naughty,.
If I were in your shoes, I'd stick on Mark Laboccetta's Omer Usa: he's famous for excellent customer care and friendly to Deeper Blue members.

PS: Pssst, hey Mark L., now you ow me a beer to say the least :t

Its interesting to hear the users comment now after the guns been on the market for some time and people have used them.

I for one have found a problem with the new open muzzle. The monoline holding the spear presses it to the barrel in place where the spear is hanging in the mid air. So when open muzzle is used the spear bands and the gun shoots down. Have any of you noticed this?

For my Cayman carbon 100 its not a big deal as I prefer closed muzzle anyway.
 
I too would be interested to hear how folk are getting on with their Caymans, as they only recently caught my attention. Esp. the carbon.
 


I've never noticed any thing like that with open muzzle guns, perharps because when the gun is shoot, the line holding the shaft down is actually loose. I always tought the bands not being align with the shaft would be more of an issue, but both my cayman and teak-sea's shoot really well.
I think one of the most important things is how rigid the barrel is and the mass of the gun, one of the reasons my old sporasubs do not shoot as well as my cayman(IMO).
 


I got the Omer Cayman HF 95 since a year now...i shot lots of fish, however, out of every 10 shots, i used to get 3 fish, the other 7 were eitheri missed, or the cable was getting tangeled up on the open muzzle which i really hate now.
after adding another 16mm rubber to my HF, the cable started to leave marks on the muzzle of the gun... im afraid the plastic muzzle will break soon.

nowadays im using picasso 90cm and thinking of selling my OMER Cayman HF and replacing it with a Rabitech Stealth.

I liked the HF... it got it all, however enough of those failing shots :head

I got my hands on one of the HF2 100. Now i was always partial to the riffe guns, due to their durability. After getting one of the omer guns i was a little weary but excited to put it to the test. Apon using it i noticed that a few of my shots were a little low. The one thing that stood out to me however was the poor trigger. This was what appeared too me to be responsible for the accuracy of the gun. Now im not saying that the riffes are superior to the omers but they deffinetly have a better trigger mech. If omer were put a real quality trigger mech on there, they could be a real contender.

I never notice any thing like that with my gun, but I am going to sign up for every cayman, I wonder if omer is getting big too fast and not putting enough into quality control.

BTW in US we have Mark Labocceta, he is the omer rep. really nice to deal with any problems.
 
I'm not a Cayman user myself, but obviously, whenever we switch from a type of gun to another, we must bear in mind that it's up to us to adjust and get used to the different trigger sensitivity, aiming low/high, balance and grip feeling et cetera et cetera.
More specifically on Caymans, they're said to have the smoothest trigger action so I don't get the "bad trigger" thing being reported here. As for line/muzzle issues, I lean to think it can't be a product problem but an individual user's problem, since many people are not having these issues. (I'm just talking by common sense: again, I'm not a Cayman owner)...

PS: I remember the first times I was hunting with my beloved Gabbiano: the trigger felt too soft, the grip felt too small, the spear line tangled between bands and wishbone, the tracking felt innatural, the aiming sighting looked "strange". But now...well now every shot is a kill, I love that gun so much that I don't even feel I'm holding a gun: it feels just like a natural bit of my own arm. And it's the SAME gun I was hating so much at the beginning!!!

The anwser is I did not get over the problem.

I would also realized I was not riging the shooting line properlly, for the second wrap the line must go on the tip of the muzzle not how I was doing. But I still some shoots with single wrap that tangle, so go figure !

The other idea I had was actually installing a longer hook under the muzzle, but I had mixed fealing about that since I was the only complaining about that (before you came along) , we must not be riging the shooting line correctly, but one could make the point about the muzzle design needs to be simple enough to prevent this problem. I have almost two dozen guns, this is the only gun that I had this problem, I was somewhat "happy" to read that someone else had that complain !

The adicional complain I had is the line release, I wish it had an angle back, that would make reloading much faster, that is minor compair to the tangling issue.

I've actually missed quite a number of fish because of this issue, at this point I am thinking about replacing the muzzle with a HammerHead muzzle.

I agree with spaghetti...We are meant to adapt to our guns and their particular qualities, and many of these qualities can be manipulated anyway. There is too much focus on qualities like accuracy, recoil, etc., when many of these qualities are dependent on the gun being set up properly, such as by balancing band power with shaft weight. Critical statements like "the gun shoots low" can always be addressed by dialing the gun in better, as well as allowing for calibration of one's own aim with a particular gun.

As for inherent qualities of the Cayman, the trigger sensitivity is supposedly unparalleled. Here's a page from a Powerpoint presentation Mark sent me:



And then regarding the inherent quality of the Cayman HF/HF2 barrel design, the enhanced maneuverability and stability are definitely noticeable when compared with other guns of similar length and power (e.g., Riffe). The extremely comfortable handles (2 are supplied) are also worthy of note.

I, personally, have been very happy with my Cayman collection. I can't say I've dealt with any of the problems that have been mentioned.









 


Hi Ol DD, i can see from the pictures that you are adding a bungie to the guns with reels...a set up i never did before...
Maybe this is preventing the tangling up at the muzzle from happening...

i will try this set up, otherwise changing the muzzle will be the only solution.

i never did a second wrap, knowing that this will fuck things up even more...
after buying this gun, i went back to the shop to ask about the proper setup and cable adjustment...i followed the steps very closely...things improved however still not perfect.

I hope other Cayman HF users can help regarding this issue.

I don't use the bungie, BTW when I loan the gun to some of my friends in Brazil they are had the problem too. But I think you are correct changing the muzzle is the best solution.
The only other issue I had is how loud the gun is, the shaft rubbing on the aluminum barrel, makes for a very loud shoot. Besides that I like the gun.
