OMER's NEW GUNS!!!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I was having the tangling issue, but I don't have it anymore. I did switch my 90cm to a HammerHead muzzle for awhile, but I'm back to the stock muzzle. A couple of things were happening when I was getting tangling. One, as Strange said, I was doing a double wrap over the guide pin rather than across the face of the muzzle. The second thing was how I would twist the last loop over the line release. I've also switched back to using Mono as a leader which has helped a ton on tangling. The dyneema I used before was too light weight and knotted too easy. It not usually a problem if I take care to make sure the lines are all running parallel and not crisscrossed.

on my 55cm Cayman I still have a HammerHead muzzle, I don't like the screw in type bands and I like the open muzzle. The hammerhead sometimes has trouble with the line staying in the groove on the front of the muzzle.

On the muzzle scratching, I fixed that by no longer using the metal wishbones. I use a single 19mm band with a dyneema wishbone. The only scuffing I get now is the shaft across the barrel and the snap swivel under the barrel. I have no fear of the plastic muzzle breaking yet.

I always had mono o mine and still had the issue with the tangling, could be the twist on the line release, but that is such a detail, I may mess that up when reloading. I am aware of the pin on the HH muzzle, but I mush rather put up with that then the tangling.

Many Thanks again for all the information !

that "scccccccccraaaaaaaaatttttchhhhhhhhh" sound as the spear leaves the omers bulit in ally guide is very loud, to the point I would say my standard Spark Stealth (pnemo) is quieter.

i am having a bad time in general with guns: i can't seem to find stuff to shoot at, and when I do I miss..

I mentioned this to a buddy a while back saying "hey things can't get worse" and he said: "well, you could loose a gun as well for example" ... point taken

I glad when someone else agrees with me with this sound issue, it is very curious to me, the sound issue not being raise by more divers !

I fact I did not buy another cayman because of this issue

But I don't think there is a diver that can miss more shoots then me !

I have not fired my HF since waxing the track to see if it reduced the rubbing noise. My 55cm is the standard round barrel and smooth, not textured like the HF. It is not loud at all, size of the gun may be a factor. I actually never thought the HF was overly loud either though. I don't really hear my own gun though, I guess my focus is elsewhere. I do hear other peoples guns though.

plastic covered rails must be the quietest, followed by carbon. Waxing is a good idea if you don't plan to shoot too much, let us know how it goes.

The quietest I've shot (and I've shot many) is the polyurethane coated barrell of the Seatec Gabbiano and Seatec Snake. They have an alluminium (or carbon) round tube, covered with a shaped sleeve of soft, rubbery polyurethane. No noise when you shoot, no noise when you hit the rocks, no noise ever. Only a slight "dzinggg" sound from the trigger because its included into a metal cast cassette.
Barrell section showed here, if interested:

I rubbed ski wax onto the rail and then melted it. It's into the texture pretty good. A thin layer of silicone may have been a better option. I was not sure how well it would hold.

Guys

Loud guns are no no if you fishing snook, I will also have a hell of a time finding ski was in Brazil !
Wood guns a very quite as well, my 11 year old sporasub has a plastic cover around the barrel why can't omer do the same.

I remember when my buddy borrowed my HF...it sounded like C4 explosives under the water...only then i changed the metal wishbone to Dyneema...that was very silent...

Thanks for your comments gentlemen... and good luck

No change on the band guns, the air gun looks really cool !

I also notice they redesign the foot pocket

I think that is just the softer footpocket for the Stingray fins. All the others appear the same.

I hope you are correct, I hate the cressi pockets, again personal option, many divers love them.

BTW, I am ordering a HH muzzle and I will replace my current wishbone on my cayman hopefully that will make the difference. I can only test two months from now, since the gun is in Brazil.

I'm still considering trying a thin layer of silicone caulk on the track. I have not fired with the wax yet though.

Chris, silicone caulk actually feels grippy in the water, for example Under Water Hockey players coat their gloves in that to make them tougher and grippier. A good polishing would probably work better, but would dull soon with the salt.
