opinion on the best carbon fibre fins to buy

Just asking guys, but the world of high end carbon fiber blades doesn't get through with C4... Three pages thus far and no word about XXOne, Majestic, BleuTec, MTecnic, Abellan and other proven carbon blades producers? Many divers around the Mediterranean find them even better...

abosutely. the best fins i've used are XXone fiberglass, stiffness 3. I've definitely checked out abellansub carbon blades, as well as the H. Dessault Force Carbon, but to be honest, i've never actually used a carbon blade. Is there that much difference in reactivity/performance from a carbon blade rather than a fiberglass blade?

YEP!

as for the other Brands i have used the Mtechnics and i really liked them, BUT i find the C4 81's much nicer to use, not to mention they have better angle in the blade as far as i am concerned. alot of the reason why you wont here about Mejestic etc is that very few people have used them on here to we cant recommend what we havent used! as far as i am aware, but by no means does than mean i am correct and please correct me if i am wrong many of the ompanies you mention havent changed their blade design or materials in quite some time. Mtechnics, Majestic for example. i dont know enough about XXONE or abellen to comment.

hey DD you mentioned you have the c4 81's how do you think they are for competition i know you love your mono but any input would be great not sure if you compete with bi fins ? would they be better than my mustangs im finding a massive difference between my glass fins and the mustangs very stoked but now im wondering are a pair of 81's a good idea to have just for comp?how are they for dynamic seems they would be best for straight line dives but i compete in dynamic as well?

I tried the merou.it site several times but it seems offline.
Does anyone know if their blades fit the Effesub footpockets (type Whalebone /X2 carbon) or whether the X2 carbon blades are still available anywhere?

thanks a lot!

I just received my Captain Nemo Waterway Composite Fiberglass blades today, effectively relplacing my Cressi Gara 3000's. Immediately a difference was felt as you would feel the difference in spreading hard refrigerated butter on a piece of delicate bread....these new fins are like spreading warm butter on the bread...wow they are so smooth and efficient. I have no desire to put on my cressis any more.

I was searching for a while on the best fins (in relation to cost) and decided on these. I've been freediving only for a few months and started out with the gara 3000's in November of 2009, by the end of December I was able to dive 39m with daily training. With these fins I suspect a 20-30% increase in finning efficiency to reach negative buoyancy only needing about 7 fin strokes with the Gara's it was about 10.

I did try some nice Pure Carbon Spierres, but to be honest I can't tell too much of a difference between these captain nemo fiberglass ones....I'm sure the Spierres are better but i don't think it would merit a 2-3x price increase on 'em!

I"ll be testing these new fins on some deep dive line dives soon and will see how much past 40M I can get to.

Yes, well I'm practicing everyday and I live right on the sea! I do seem to be plateauing now in depth but am improving my over all dive times allowing for fairly easy 2 minute dives.

You would like us to believe that the no angle Capt Nemo fiberglass blades are just as good as Spierre Pure Carbons. I know that fins are somewhat subjective but I have a hard time believing that. I think everone agrees that there is a difference between FG and CF but the durability is the question. On strait performance I don't think anyone would have a hard time telling which fin is better.

@ CWW180......I never said they were "just as good". But, I did say, "I can't tell too much of a difference" (as I could between my cressi gara 3000's)

I went on to further state that, "I did try some nice Pure Carbon Spierres" and "I'm sure the Spierres are better but i don't think it would merit [the double price]"

THAT WAS ALL I ACTUALLY SAID....I don't know what you are reading!

That's all....I'm not trying make the forum believe anything...only offering my PERSONAL TEST as feedback as someone who has TRIED the Spierre Pure Carbon and who actually owns the Capt. Nemo.

Do you shore dive normally? What footpockets did you use the Spierre's with?

I continue to really like my captain nemos. I took them down today to 58M on a CWT dive and like their power.

I have had almost all of the fins mentioned( note to self, stop buying gear!) The best carbon fins I have ever had are M technic made in greece. They knock spots off ALL the others(in my opinion). For the price and for durability the waterway fibreglass blades are great too. I use the M technic fins when Im abroad and the fibreglass waterways for UK diving .far better than plastic but less liable to being broken than carbon. When you have a pair of £300 fins in the boat and someone clambering around in the boat, you get paranoid about someone stepping on them(which has happened to me before) I dont think people think enough about the foot pocket in relation to how it affects the action of the blade. Some footpockets are so stiff and heavy on the side rails that there is very little flex on the blade towards the foot.I also have some Omer rekord carbon fins and the new style millenium footpocket was as ridgid as iron making the blades far too stiff.I changed to an older style of millenium footpocket where the side rails are far softer rubber. They are like a completely different fin now.
