Oregon Freedive Palooza Aug 10-12

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Cliff you can film my unshapely body as much as you would like. My wife is excited and wants to figure out a way to get our Miniature horses up there and see if we can get them swimming. If by some miracle we can work that out I will need to borrow you to get it on film.

I just went to the dive site yesterday, it is awesome! Amazing visibility (surprised me for a fresh water lake) and the temp. was great. I didn't get a chance to go hiking but I will next time I am there. Something I really liked was there are no motorboats allowed, a few people in canoes would chat with us as they paddled by the dive float, there were even people out taking a swim around the lake. This is a great little recreation spot.

Xyser, I will be bringing my wifes gear, you can try it out if you want. If you don't fit the fins at least you will have a mask you can wear and you can practice your cw no fins.

All,

It's true Fogish and I did a little recon this weekend and had some awesome dives. Fogish is a bit timid in his account as he did a personal best of 25m which he was sure wasn't really that deep (think it was the clear water and nice dive float). Here are some more info for the Palooza:

- I will get 1 group spot that holds up to 12 people which is about what we have as coming. If we get more interest we will get two group spots. I will e-mail/pm out to you the campground number middle of next week. Also we will have a sign at the gate keepr of Lost Lake Resort. Tell them you are coming to a group site as then you don't have to pay the admission fee to get into the park.

-We will have provide grilled salmon dinner over the fire potluck Sat night so bring something to go with that for potluck. We will also have blueberry oatmeal (we are very famous for this and most people love it) for Sat morning. Bring food and drinks for other meals. We will have some group stoves and kitchen area so you don't all need to bring your own stoves especially if you are flying don't worry to bring any stoves. If you have some nice big stoves or cooking gear for camping go ahead and bring it if you have room and are driving.

-I plan to make another dive float so will have two floats with lines. Bring your own float if you want to. Bring also if you have extra freedive gear as its always nice to share and try different gear, especially monofins!! We will have two monofins that you can try out.

Cheers Wes

Put my brother and I down as a possible for Sundays activities. We do not have the right flippers, mask and haven't dived past 5' but sounds like fun and want to learn. (Joking aobut the 5' but not much further).

I will be the only one diving as my girlfriend doesn't dive and she would prefer to do some watercoloring of the surrounding landscapes.

I'll be bringing my freedive gear along with my full Light & Motion U/W video setup. I'm wanting to shoot interviews on land and shoot actual freediving footage underwater. I'm mainly wanting to stay between 5-10 meters unless the viz is exceptional.

Premise behind this little self generated project is why you freedive. I'll edit the project once I get back home and will post the finished project online.

We are planning on driving up friday evening -will the site be ready on that day???

Cliff,

Yeah the site will be all set up for you for Friday night arrivals. Check at the Lost Lake front gate for signs for the freedive palooza. I will also try to post the actual camp site(s) and a map of them on DB in the middle of next week so then you will know exactly where to go. Your video project sounds GREAT!! and should fit in exactly with the idea of our event.

Cheers Wes

Alright Wes, here are some questions: How much cash should we bring? Are there fire pits? Is there a bathroom (flush or outhouse?)? Running water? Anything else you can think of, guidelines of some sort, maybe bring a bag for trash, a requirement to have fun... stuff like that.

Fogish,

I think $50 cash should be fine for each person. Splitting the camping will be less $50 each for sure though it depends on how many people come to know the amount. There are permanent out houses by the campsite that are pretty nice. There is a water spigot with drinking water nearby too. There are not showers I do not think. Bringing a trash bag is a good idea. They do have some central trash dumpsters. For fun bring a blanket or mat that you can relax on for breathing excercises and yoga (if you want to do that). They have fire rings and we will bring firewood for campfires. Bring hiking shoes and water bottles for hikes in the woods (if you want to do that) and if you have some other fun things to do/share bring those too. Mainly we will be diving, eating, diving, sleeping, telling stories about diving, doing practice excercises for diving and also of course, diving!!

Cheers Wes

Friends,

Many of you will be driving thru Hood River about 1 hour before you get to Lost Lake Friday night. There is REALLY GOOD THAI FOOD at a take out stand that is almost on the way. To get there mapquest "Windance, 108 Hwy. 35, Hood River, OR 97031" the thai trailer is in the Windance parking lot and open untill 8pm. You can call your order in ahead ph 541-340-0576 which will save you time as they get busy on Friday nights. The green chicken cury rocks and the stir fried vegetables and pad thai are excellent and come with either chicken, shrimp, beef or tofu.

Cheers Wes Lapp

My husband might get called in for training this weekend but we don't find out until Friday afternoon! But if he does not (hopefully he doesn't) we will be there Saturday morning. If we don't get a chance to see you guys have a great weekend and hopefully it will happen again next year!

FYI on the footage I'm shooting - hoping to be in the water quite a bit getting footage while diving and to have good viz between the surface and 10 meters - want all the available light I can get. Will be wanting to talk with various folks on camera about what freediving means to each of you personally - I'm working towards about a 2-3 minute piece at most so not sure what will get used and what won't but who knows...

My girlfriend and I plan on leaving Eugene between 12-1pm so we plan to be there by around 4pm or so on Friday afternoon.

Looking forward to some yummy Pad Thai in Hood River.. :p

My wife and I will be there around 8 friday evening, earlier if she can get off work a bit sooner. I can't wait to meet everyone and have a great relaxing weekend.

Unfortunately I was not able to make it, I had something creep up on Saturday.

I do however appreciate the time and effort Wes and family put in to making this happen as well as anybody else that helped out.

I hope everybody had a good time and everybody was safe-

Nick

It was great to meet all of you this weekend. I only wished I could have dove... :(

Not sure if I was able to get enough footage for something worth watching. Didn't even get a chance to chat with some of you on camera due to being under the weather.

Looks like this has moved from my sinuses into my chest now so it may well be a nasty summer cold after all. As soon as we got out of the area, my sinuses did quit throbbing so much - so it must have been started by something in the air around the Hood River area. We took US97 to US20 to HWY126 back to Eugene. Took almost 6 hours to get home, but the drive was a relaxing one. I did suffer from ear squeeze while descending down from the mountain most of the way home. Woke up this morning to chest congestion so it's continued neti pot sessions and lots of rest for the rest of the week.

Safe diving
