Phew!! That looks pretty cool over there... is there a reason that all of the fish gather like that? A powerplant was mentioned... is there a warm outflow that draws them in?

I'm very very jealous!!!

Huw.

There is a warm discharge pipe right there- not sure where it comes from. I think JON might know more. You can really tell the difference in temp. It's a good 10-15 degrees warmer. Great place to see fish!

Warm water discharge pipe from the coal plant- and not a sewage pipe like Sven likes to mention. ;)

I have had the musky come up and snag a crappie off of my stringer before.:head I think that they are just looking for a free meal. You can actually grab onto their tail and go for a ride- I tried this after watching Ted and it really works. :)

I would have gone out tonight, but I have such a head cold I couldn't even get down 3'.

I did stop to check out the south side of the lake this past weekend when I was out biking with the kids and saw how great the vis was. It had to be over 20'- even with the high winds that we had.

The outlet is a real collecting point in the lake, at least until the water warms up and then they scatter until next fall.

I can see other benifits of having a buddy diving with you. Other than being safer, If I had someone there with a speargun that could put a second shot in those Buffalo Carp, I would of had a better chance of landing them. Maybe next time.

This is carp (50lb) i caught in france. Great fighting fish, do you ever see monsterous fish in the outflows. We used to live close to a chocolate factory which used to pump warm water into the river and there were always plenty of carp around these outflows

with a rod and line btw

Stuckinsurrey~ that is a nice carp! I've seen big Buffalo carp there. Don't think they are as big as the one you are holding in the picture. Some may reach 30 lbs but I've yet to find Giant Carp- Maybe in the Great Lakes. Did you catch that with a Hook and Line or did you spear it?

------Scott

Hook and line on crab flavoured baits, do you guys ever try ground baiting an area to draw them in is would this be regarded as cheating!?

5-16-07 Lots of fish again- not as many Muskies but a few. Vis was not as good about 10 feet was really hard to see unless sun was shining. Alot of Pparticles floating in the water. Ended up shooting 8 carp. 1 buffalo carp 7 common carp. The Outlet seems to be a good place to go on a sunny dayrofl

Anyone know if the Outlet is on? May try super early Sat (5/25) AM. Let me know what conditions are like if you know.

Thanks,

Gene

Gene - What time? I was going to go there in the AM also. depending on the night - should be pretty good- has been calm and quit all day. Should be nice and clear. The afternoon is suppose to bring in some showers.

The Outlet was NOT packed with fish today. I didn't go in cause vis looked bad and there weren't alot of fish. I saw a few Carp and about a hundred Gills. Very choppy waves and lots of floaties. Didn't look good.

Scott the time for the outlet is harder youll have to beat the fishermen there.
but dont worry the fish have started comming shallow for several weeks now they are all over the lakes. Monona is full of small blue gills right now. just pick out a park and swim out to the weed line. dont forget to hurry shes gonna green up fast. Also if you come down and its green give it a chance as long as your here you may find that its still clear under the algae. Nothing is cooler than diving through a forest of algea to break through to clear water below!

diving below the algea sounds cool - I plan on going there all summer long- I know what you mean by beat the Anglers- when I was there last time- they were all around me- Do they have to stay so many feet away from me? I had a boat go about 15' in front of me- he was trolling, so he wasn't going fast- but I thought they had to stay a certain distance from me and my flag. his bait skimmed my head.

That spot has always been a honey hole for guys that cant fish. Im sure there are gonna be some that dont really care. Madison is full of new people with the recent growth spurt. Thats why I bought a yak. A lot less people come in for a look with a boat behind you. they see it empty and think some one is swimming I guess. Also I think A lot of new boaters have a rough enough time keeping track of things out there. When I hear screws I surface to check them out. With my old float I would surface to boat looking at my flag saying " O I wondered what that thing was for??" Just talk to the fisheries guys at the DNR and they tell you how many of their nets get run over here every year :) those are flagged as well. the first rule is trust no one. two years ago I was diving in a marina for some lost stuff for the owner anda boater looked at me diving and still got in his boat and backed right into me.Imagine his suprize when I shoved my float right into his boat as hard as I could and reached up and grabbed his throttle! He had totally forgot I was there. so bear that in mind when your diving anywhere. I even had a spotter on the peir yelling at him.

anyone been in or around Lake Monona? how is the clearity? The Outlet? Just wondering.

-----Scott

I rode around it a few times last week.

Everytime I rode around the lake it was very green and murky- except the outlet. The water was on and it was flowing! It was clear in that general area and tons of fish. Of course, on my Sunday ride the water was off and it was back to being green- the one day I could have dove.:head

Mendota is at it's prime right now. That would be the lake to hit if your coming to town.

I'm planning on going to Milwaukee tomorrow, but I need to get another weather update first. The wind has been so strong there that all the boats have come in off the lake the past two days- which doesn't help the vis. :(

Jon

Thanks Jon, I've got next week off (6/12 - 6/19)- So, i'm hoping to hit as many lakes as I can. I went to Wood Lake with a friend on Wed. He wanted some Gills to eat, so We shot a few - most of them were 9 1/2" 10" - those were big. I also found a wooden boat at about 20' down. Looked like it had been there awhile. I got some Video of it but no still pics.
