Stop by the OUTLET today- Green,GREEN,GREEN!!!!! The Carp were Roll'n all over- but You wouldn't be able to see your hand in front of your face- So, I went up to SWAN LAKE in PORTAGE. Viz wasn't that good about 8' - but was still able to to shoot 4 carp. Will post pics later.

Scott,

Since you have a boat you should head on over to Mendota. All the action is in the edge of the weed beds at about 15'. You'll get your fill of bluegill and crappie, but if you insist on carp I can guarantee more than your boat will hold.

I shot one carp on Saturday and almost got it onto Ted's stringer before he caught me.rofl The rest of the time I didn't bother with them because I was too busy shooting fish I wanted to eat.

Thanks Jon- I might have to go out there on Thursday- I'm not a big fan of eating Gills but I love me some Perch ;) - I like shooting Carp cause they take you for a ride and I like getting them out of the water. "Water Rats" ----Ever been to Green Lake in Green Lake CO? On this map that I have it says "Clear Water with 21' vis" I might go check it out on Wed. Friday I'm heading back up to WOOD LAKE - have to look for a flag of mine, my friend lost when we dove there last week. Friday afternoon through the Weekend I;m heading up to Rice Lake in Barron Co with the Family. (in-laws included "ugh") They want to do some regular fishing and need someone who knows what they are doing. then Monday & Tuesday I'm back to Diving. I gotta take advantage of my time off.

Ted just gave me the bad news about Mendota.:(

The bloom is finally upon us and the vis dropped in half during the past 7 hours! I find it amazing how fast it happened, but it's his job to know these things. There may still be enough vis to see to the end of a short gun, but it looks like the good times are over until fall.

A drive up to Wood Lake my pay off better for you.

Jon

Actually went to wood lake today with my 5 year old (she got a snorkle set for her birthday) and there were 5 boats flying all over the weed beds WATERSKIING- I waited till they were done and juct checked out the vis- it was maybe 5'. So, does SUMMER pretty much end diving and spearfishing? or Do I need to go to bigger lakes like LAKE MICHIGAN. I stopped at Swan lake too and vis was worse today than 2 days ago. Not sure where to go tomorrow- I have the whole day off. Maybe I'll get the Bow and the Boat out and do some Bowfishing in Puckaway or something.

It does sound weird but I find the same thing to be true- diving is better in winter around here. rofl

Lake Michigan will be much better this time of year- as long as we don't get hit with the winds like we did last week. "Normally", as summer goes on the inland lakes green up quite a bit and Lake Michigan warms up and only goes a little bit green. Vis in Lake Michigan is almost always double what you'll find in most of the other lakes, as long as there's no wind, and the mussels will make the vis rival anything I've seen diving in the ocean.

You could try spearing the break walls in Milwaukee or further north. the surface temp is almost 60F and there are hundreds of carp to shoot- as well as lots of other fish that your not allowed to shoot but are still fun to look at.

Another option is to just head further north to look for quieter lakes. Any time you can find a no-wake lake your set. If you just want to get your kid in the water i would suggest Devil's Lake. It doesn't get much nicer than that for looking at fish. The did make it illegal to spear in Devil's Lake about 3 years ago, but it used to be great!

Lake Wazee has suckers you can shoot, and one of the best beaches for kids to swim in around. You can't use any gas motors on the lake, but there is a nice boat launch if you want to bring your boat anyhow. I won't say that there are a ton of fish in there, but the vis is almost always great.

I'm not sure what the vis is like right now, but you could also check out Fish Lake in northern Dane county- just south east of Devil's lake. It drops off into a nice, deep, little lake that's too small for much boat traffic on it.
