Oversized pools

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Thanks, Simos! I am just adding a photo here, so that we have it here like at the others too. Hence again - Tooting Bec Lido, London, UK. 100 yards (91.44 m) long and 33 yards (30.18 m) wide:

And I am adding another one that Laminar posted in the thread http://forums.deeperblue.com/freedi...ionship-indoor-2011-lignano-8.html#post863679
It is the Kitsiliano Pool in Vancouver, Canada. And Laminar claims there will be a freedving competition Kits Pool Challenge 2013 (seems to be announced pretty long time in advance). It is 137.5m long

Some amazing places here guys, great to look at! Just wish I was closer to them :]]

Anyway, I will introduce you to Gaddings Dam. It's on top of a hill about 400m+ above sea level and is an old disused reservoir. I know i have said reservoir and not pool, but it is owned by the local town of Todmorden [Inbetween Leeds and Manchester] who bought it in 2001 i think. They now maintain it every year so that triathletes, long distance swimmers etc can train there without problem through the summer months. The reason I found out about it is through doing triathlons and needing somewhere close to Leeds to swim outdoors and get used to open-air swimming. The only other place is Ilkley Lido but I am yet to go there.

Some quick info about it;

Average depth of 2metres
Max depth of 4.5metres
Has Britain's highest beach in one of it's corners
200metres x 125metres [not quite square so is actually bigger]
Websites have daily temperatures
It gets warm enough for swimming trunks and cold enough to freeze in winter

Thanks for the contribution, Martin. There are indeed plenty of dams and natural or artificial reservoirs worldwide, so it would be an exhaustive task to list them all here. And it would be pity if the real pools then got lost among all those dams or reservoirs. This thread was intended indeed more for real pools. There are some reservoirs listed in the thread too, but they usually at least have some aspect of a pool - tiled floor, filtering system, etc. Thanks anyway

Not as big as the other pools in this thread :) But my local pool has a channel going around the main pool. So we are training in the channel when the mainpool is used for waterpolo. It is 1,5 meter deep, and about 64 m long with walls for push off at both ends. It is the shape of the letter U surrounding the pool, attched 2/3 up on the sides.. If going in circles it is 75 meter - or endless... Theres a black line at the bottom in the middle, perfect for orientation.

Sometimes they open some waterjets that makes a lot of stream, but they can be turned off, and the water stops moving pretty fast, because it's a fun-play-pool, so there's many spaces that stop the water. It was build partly with money from IOC, so it HAD to be a "play-land", and therefore could not be 25m long... so it is 24,9 :)

The two curves is a small challenge with a mono, but i'm getting there. With bi-fins it is easy.

I guess if people cuold accept some curves, even a 50m pool could be made "endless" with a coulered rope at the bottom.

Anyway this is the only "real" indoor swimmingpool in Greenland were I live at the moment.

The architect was, for sure, thinking outside the box. Nice work!

Another two pools for the collection, both 100m long (330') and both in New York City:

1) the Red Hook Outdoor Olympic Pool
It is an open-air pool in Brooklyn, with the dimensions of 330' x 130' x 4' (100m x 40m x 1.2m). What is amzing on it, is that the entry is free, and alegedly the water is very clean. At least I found these claims in some online forums, for example here: Red Hook Recreation Center - Red Hook - Brooklyn, NY

2) The Astoria Park Pool in Queens, NYC 330 x 165 x 4 (100m x 50m x 1.2m). An online discussion about the pool can be found here: Astoria Park Pool - Astoria - Astoria, NY

With all these huge pools listed in this thread, I wonder whether someone finally organizes a freedving competition in one of them. It would be very interesting to see DYN and DNF performances in such conditions.

hey Trux check tis out it's in Chile. They claim it's the biggest pool in the world.

Yes, thanks, but the Del Mar pool was posted in this thread already four times in the last few years :) May be worth of reading through the thread before posting new contributions to avoid unecessary duplicate posts.
