I quit smoking 4 weeks ago after smoking for 25 years. Around the same time, I decided to start freediving. Is there anything I should be concerned with having damaged my lungs for so long. Currently 2:30 on static breath holds and 1:30 while diving. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Ha! I am exactly where you are. I want freediving be my motivation.
My guess is that it probably only means the progress will be noticeably slower.
Before full commitment I plan to see MD specialized in diving as well as get spirometry.

Hi Whalebone and well done, I'm in the same place too.

Get speaking to an instructor, they can help you so much. I've gone from 1:43 to 4:10 dry apnea in just 4 weeks. I recommend STAmina apnea trainer on android if you have it available. Such a good app, tracks your progress and designed by a Freediver!
Get yourself on a course and everything will fall into place!

Regards,

Webster

Thanks Webster, I'm doing a freediving course next weekend. I'll check out the app also.
