I tried to change the Vecta handle on my Rob Allen Sparid 1400mm but the handle attachment snapped off inside and I’ve tried to get it out without damaging the barrel to much, but no success. Can I just cut the barrel down?

Hi Laurence,
Why are you changing the handle?

If it is the aluminium version, you could probably be able cut it down, it is just a continuous extrusions, at least mine was. The spear might be a little long afterwards.

However, the classic trick for freeing tight metal rings/tubes is the warm them up so they expand faster than what is inside them. In this case, I would suggest using hotwater (also good for dissolving salt) instead of a flow torch ;)

You might want to contact Rob Allen/Jeremy Spencer at the Dive Factory in Natal, South Africa to see what they suggest.

BTW Isn't the muzzle held into the barrel with a plastic dowel/rod that needs to be pushed out? I recall that is how the trigger mech. is held in the Vectra handle.
