Share the single most unforgettable moment you’ve ever had underwater

Hi everyone!

Over the years as a scuba diving instructor in Athens, I’ve noticed that every diver seems to have one moment underwater they’ll never forget.

It could be:

• Seeing your first sea turtle or colorful reef
• Feeling completely weightless for the first time
• Taking your very first full breath underwater as a beginner

For me personally, one unforgettable moment was guiding a first-time diver during a Discover Scuba Diving experience in Athens. Seeing their expression change from nervous to pure joy — that instant reminded me why I love teaching diving.

I've been freediving my whole life so it is hard to pick a specific moment, but one that does stick out recently was freediving Polai Bay in Hawaii and while swimming out in somewhat murky water having a Ray the size of a Volkswagen Beetle glide beneath me.

I've been freediving my whole life so it is hard to pick a specific moment, but one that does stick out recently was freediving Polai Bay in Hawaii and while swimming out in somewhat murky water having a Ray the size of a Volkswagen Beetle glide beneath me.

I did a group night dive in Hawaii and we managed to attract a school of them with our dive lights while we were on the floor. Swarming around close enough to touch.

Had to be my OW certification. My instructor found a a young octopus in the coral and gave it to me to hold. It turned colors and inked. I've also dived with turtles and sea lions. All amazing experiences.
