Hey does anyone info on the thurlestone comp coming up in August.
I know it's to be held on the 31st but does anyone know what time it starts, where to meet, how long we in the water what time the weigh in is?
Myself and my diving buddy should be entering so It would be great to know these things and also to know if anyone on the this forum are planning to enter as it would be great to put a few faces to the names on here!!!

Scott, There maybe a question mark on Thurlstone so I would wait for a while.

Thanks Paul. It would just be my luck with Thurlestone with the amount of hassle i've given my boss over giveing me the day off for the comp but there you have it. I hope they tell us soon

Joined last this forum last week and a big thank you to all those who gave me some advice on where to go for a wet suit, getting a MTM from Spearo hopefully!
Can anyone go out on a limb to help me again? I currently fish around the shallow waters of East devon at Budleigh Salterton but am looking to spread a little further after some better opportunities. Has anyone one got any obvious places to try?
I spent most of my school holidays in Brixham and fancy Shoalstone upto Berryhead, someone told me Meadfoot was worth a go but any others?
Any help would be much appreciated

Looks like the water has started to clear up, been swimming today no diving but from the surface the water is looking clearer. A week of no east winds and we should have some nice viz.
water clearing! now that is good news. On my freediving course tomorr just in time for next weekend!
Comps are usually 6 hours long, you get out when you want to. Normally 10 till 4.

I've been out in Babbacombe beach yesterday(monday) and I had a great fun,well the viz still bad about 2 metres but I had a nice spider crab in the net and 2 good size wrasse.First time that I use my Omer 75 Escalibur 3000 nice carbon body that in the water is extremely light and the shoot is perfect.Saw a lot of sea life as well and a couple big cuttlefishes,many eels and little wrasse.Been in the water for a coule of hours and I went to join my friend that fishing like 40-50 Makerel at the end of the day.I will attach some pics about the lovely day.

Hi Tonyiannu glad to hear you enjoyed Babbacombe it is a great dive just a bitch trying to get your car back up the hill HaHa . What size was the spider crab you caught?
I got a Excalibur but not in carbon, its nice and light but most the shots go low. Spider crabs i cant be bothered with them no more, babbacombe has lots of edible crabs just to the let of the pier there is a drop off, with holes home to crabs lobsters and a few congers.
I don't think I'm going to go putting any snorkels in my mouth for a few days just had 4 teeth removed.:crutch

Cook spider crab like edible crab or lobster; place in plenty of boiling salted water and cook for 10 mins or so. Remove from pot, allow to cool then crack claws and body to remove meat. It is much fiddlier with spider crabs than with your normal crab but for me the meat is much sweeter with spiders. If you are on beach you can boil them in seawater.
Can't see the logic in claiming that spiders' have less meat. My biggest last year was 5lb 14oz and most of the males I take are around the 4 lb mark. There is far more meat in the claws. When was the last time anyone caught a 4lb edible?
How do you guys measure the crabs? the minimum size that is. I would hate to come out the water with a crab only to be nailed for having an undersize one
Not sure who said they have less meat, I said it was more fiddly to get out which is true. Edibles can be cracked in cleaned in minutes once you get the knack, spiders take longer!!
