Didn't realise there was some one call old sarge on here. I would change it to young sarge but there is a very good chance i could be older! I did see a shoul of fish yesterday that i was unsure what they were. They were about 6 inches long and had orange strips, they looked like the fresh water gudgen. Saw a couple feeding on the bottom. Any ideas what they were.

yep they are red mullet, i have also seen them but they are tiny to small to shot.
Dived today only one bass. My D3 survived my weight belt dropping on it.
It was like being in a "blue planet" documentary today the mackerel were boiling on the surface and seagulls swooping down, all that was missing was a whale.rofl

Ah thats what they were, Red mullet. Thanks I'll remember them. Was back at Babbacombe again yesterday at high tide. Vis was not quite so good as the day before but still about 4 metres just a little milky. The seal was about around the pier. Anyone ever see it while underwater? Although it looks nice on the surface, seeing a 6ft, 250lb creature with razor sharp teeth unclose and in murky water might make me jump abit! Just one more question is there a season for scollops?
When I came face to face with a scuba diver at Babbacombe in 2m viz with my speargun pointing forwards I think he was the one who was scared! :t
i seen a big old seal last year out of teignmouth might be the same one! no season for scallops just cant take them before 7am and after 7pm somebody did tell me why but cant remember!
dived four reefs in bigbury bay yesterday, i came across 2 nice lobster took one but they were both out in the open and very relaxed/almost they didnt see or care, no fight just picked them up, were they looking for a mate? as i know june is male spider blind date or had they malted? usually lobster take some stalking etc saw lots of bass, surrounded by a school of 50 + but all seemed fairly on the limit size wise, but viz was really special, sparkling clarity.

I will be heading South for good in a few weeks to take up a post in Exeter. Therefore, I hope to be getting in the water more regularly. I was a member of the BSA, but due to a lack of time, I let my membership lapse. I intend to take out another membership soon.
Is the EXE club part of the BSA? Do they have regular meetings?

They do get big enough to shoot, up to 3lbs or so, though anything over 1lbs is good, at least they do down here anyway
. If you get the chance of a decent one take it, they are one of the tastiest fish in the sea. The bigger ones come out to play at night.Here's one I had 3 days ago.

Probably a bit late but:
Dived Babbacombe around midday - slight swell and viz up to 4 or 5m. Thousands of sandeels and whitebait, loads of mackeral but nothing to shoot (I wasn't quick enough to hit the mackeral)
Saw 2 spearos in a RIB with nothing to report except one bass sighting.
