Hi Dave, have you ever tried a mamba air gun? Very different from a standard air gun, no recoil & far more power, very smooth to fire.
Dave O C will have had plenty of chances to be seduced by the dark side as one of his regular dive partners is Dave of Spearo fame. I look forward to seeing it in action when I visit Guernsey!!!
Dived Ansteys Cove this morning at hight tide. Viz 2-4m. A couple of chaps in a boat motored over to me just to warn me they were laying some nets and they pointed them out to me so I made a point of thanking them for thinking of me.
Again, missed a decent crab today (I'm such a ponce). Saw a crab bum sticking out of the weed. Ha ha I thought, I see you. Dived down with my booty bag ready and grabbed it by the bum. What I didn't know was how good they are at holding onto rocks, element of surprise or not. Puts limpets to shame really. Well it spun and showed me its business end and disappeared into the forest of kelp and I didn't have enough air to keep tabs on it. Couldn't find it after that. O well, another day.
Bagged a 3lb mullet in a stringweed bed early on (which my cat is now enjoying - he's so spoilt). Caught a glimpse of a bass shortly after near a point but it looked weeny anyhow.
Found some sizeable bass out near the far point in the deep but was too eager and missed its nose by and inch.:head Water seemed colder today as reported on the Cornland forum, must be the rain (a lot of rain to have that effect?!!).
Didn't bother swimming around to Hopes Nose as I did 30k of wet Welsh mountain biking yesterday and I was beginning to miss the sofa.
So anyway, if anyone's down that way in the next few days, watch out for the nets (they were marked at each end but not with very big or high viz buoys/bottles).

Hi jez how was the viz. I was tempted to get in today but this wind has picked up so much now im not sure wot its done to the water.

HI DAVE this was some fish i was a lucky one he told me where it was caught and thats not bad for a diver of 72yrs yes thats his age and hes still good better than most DAVE O
,that's gives me(us) a lots of hopes for the future i will be happy to dive til 60 mate.Anyway congrats to your friend for the nice bass.
I'm off to paignton tomorrow as My lads are racing there. I have to stay fairly close to the harbour but am going to dip my speartip in the oggin anyway.
Is the headland round to the right worth a look?? what about the pier.?

underwaterpics.co.uk has an artical on the pier and say its a hot spot for mullet ( probably the harbour mullet) but other than that the area is like a waste land , there is nothing, the same can be said about Preston beach, its pretty baron. Doc if you going to do the pier you will have to do it on a high tide as the tide goes out a fair bit on the low. Around the other side is Goodrington . Its crossed my mind a couple times to give it a look but the boat traffic around there has always put me off. Having said that, the cove on the right of the harbour has a big kelp bed so you never know.
Dived Ansteys again today at high tide. The sunny weather helped the viz upto the lofty heights of 5-6m today, not too shabby.
Lots of mullet in the stringweed beds but didn't bother with them. No sign of any bass in the stringweed this year so far, which I find a bit odd.
Found some bass in the deep off the point between Ansteys and Hope Cove but it wasn't till I was under the cliffs further round the corner I bagged one. I had just given that one the business with my knife and dived the spot again hoping for a lucky second. My knife oviously wasn't secure as it fell out of the holster and hit ne square in the nuts when I was heading downwards. I found it at 10m and was so busy sorting that out I didn't notice the group of bass in front of me. So I ended up taking a snap shot that missed, duh!
Managed to shoot my first mackeral today. He was on his own at 10m and made the very unusual mistake of coming back for a second look at me. Normally mack just zoom past and thats it.
A nice dive, I'm off to the pub now, he its like summer out there woo hoo!:friday

Just rigged up my gun with a new 7mm spear as the old one was 6mm and bent to hell and never shot straight :head Went for a morning dive today round Brixham and nailed a 2.5 pound mullet with my first shot:friday Well STOKED
Ive put the rubbers from my 45 onto my cressi 60 and the gun now has an amazing amount of power compared to what I was used too. the combo of a new spear and different set of rubbers has brought life back into the old girl.
Its a late tide 2nite so im going for another dive around 18:00

Hi jwells1989 it was the far side of shoalston towards Berryhead. Theres not alot of them about but they are out there.
