Spent today debateing on whether or not to get in and decided to give it a miss.
Might give livermead a go tomorrow after work but the boat traffic in that area of the bay can be a nightmare. I dived the same spot last year and bagged a dog fish and saw loads of wrasse. My mates Dad said there used to be bass in that area so fingers crossed

Yer big tides this week. I got in at high tide today, viz was poor 2 meters max.
took my biggest mullet yet (7 1/2 pounds)out a hole which had 2 smaller ones in it. And thats all i saw in 4 hours apart from small pollock.
As the tide droped the viz was under a meter and my 75 Gun was to big!.

i am new to this forum so hello my name is calico i am 16 years old and i live in brighton and i am a keen spearo just wondred i go spearing under piers a lot but all i see is wrasse and the occassinal bass and mullet any tips on how to see bigger fish thanks
Try joining the Sussex club, they fish your area and members live in Brighton, Shoreham etc. They go on club dives so you will soon find out where is good. Try contacting them via;

Dived the tide up this morning and had upto 3 meters in places but no fish ( other than wrasse and baby pollack) The water was cloudy on the surface but cleared on the bottom . the no fish thing aside I had a real nice dive. Am going to dive Meadfoot tonite and with a bit of luck this viz will be the same as this morning.

Dived Budleigh today but the water was a mess, full of weed and cloudy. missed some nice mullet in 2m viz because they were too close and i couldn't get the gun around and retreat in time.
Topped it all off by putting a lovely bend in my spear having hit a rock behind a fish, great!
Will try later in the week if i can hammer the thing straight if not it might be time to hunt for a new spear!

Hi. I'm new to spearfishing and have only had my first gun for a couple of weeks. Its a Bauchat Arka 90cm. Not sure if its a good gun or not but it feels good and seems to have loads of power. I have been out a few times with it to Ansty cove as i hear there are loads of Mullet there and thought it would be a good place for a beginner to start. I have seen a few mullet in the weed near the railings that says do not enter. I need some advice on places at Anstys or nearby that would be good for a beginner. Any help would be great. Saw someone spearfishing at Meadfoot yesterday afternoon at low tide with a orange marker and camo suit. I thought it was too murky and left my gun in the car, had already been to Ansty and couldn't see a thing. Who ever it was still came out with a couple of fish. Was going to say hi but they didn't hang around.
Dived Ansteys on Saturday (Sarge - look back through this thread, there's a bit of Ansteys info in there). Very quiet for the first 2 hours. Swam around to Hopes Cove and shot a nice bass 3-4lb after 3 hours, followed by a nice 2lb mullet.
Knackered after four hours but happy to see some fish, even though they took some finding!

hey all i had a really good couple of dives, i dived in brighton but thought i would let people know in case they are visting or something went in 3 days a go and got a 3 pound trigger fish and a big lobster, and i went the next day and got 5 mullet biggest about 4 pounds a bream and a pollack.
