Hi All,

went in at Budders today again and the bass were missing but the mullet were about in better numbers and apart from a couple of ridiculous school boy errors (Pull Trigger - nothing happens- look at safety catch- 6-7lb mullet swims off from point blank range) would have had more but these two popped up late on so fish for tea.

Tide was awesome and getting worse next few days.

Hi all,

Been out in the Orkney today and low and behold, i must be the mullet man at the moment! Bottom fishing for bream when, wham! A nice silver sided fish smashed my legered lugworm and it wasn't the bass i thought it was it was a thick lipped grey!!
Strange.

Anywhooo, my apologies to Go'rge, James T's friend that I couldn't show him the local spots as i already had plans at the times he was about. Still i'm off work for a while now so pop back if you can??????

Happy hunting, in tomorrow looking for flatties if possible.

Lo all,

Well I thought I would make my first post after a month or so of quietly looking through the forum!

Me and my brother went on our very first spearing trip today down to Seaton and what a brilliant day it was. The water was like glass at slack tide and only stirred up abit an hour or so later and with the sun shining on our backs it made the visibilty near perfect.

We went today with pretty low expectations with a "good day" being just sighting a bass however after an hour or so in the water I could hear my bro's frantic screams with him waving at me about 100 yrds off the shore. Swimming over revealed he had managed to hit a bass of just over 3lb square between the eyes on his first shot (Good going considering he is near blind). I saw a pollack of around 2 ft in length but when I steatlthed after it, it was like chasing shadows! Considered taking a wrasse but they all were undersized. Saw loads of sand eels and baby pollack, I think Winky (brother) mentionaed something about a shoal of mullet and an edible sized edible crab but we ost it in the kelp (devastated)!

We both just need to improve our bottom times as we lack the endurance atm to stay down on the bottom for any substantial time. Was wondering, how ofter do you guys dive to the bottom or do you stalk fish from the surface? I loved diving down and clinging to some kelp looking for shadows in the gloom!

All in all a great weekend that made up for the four hour drive i did! O well, same again next weekend bro!

Hi All,

Been in again over the near reef and apart from one little Bass and the usual turbo mullet very quiet, even the Wrasse were conspicuous by their absence.
Took one, missed many but did laugh at the local fire brigade trying to practise a river rescue. Here's a tip from me: For F**** sake don't fall in a river down this way else you'll drown and then the fire brigade will follow you down to the bottom,until someone who knows what they're doing turns up!! Total comedy shambles.

I am in Devon for the weekend and don't know any spots down that way (go mostly in Guernsey), any reccomendations?- i don't expect your favourite secret spots, just somewhere I might spot a bass or mullet or two.

You are on a roll at the moment I'm impressed!

Went down to Heybrook bay weds & the sun was out but viz dissapointing. Only saw 1 bass but even the wrasse were hiding somewhere.

Nice weather & I have to do standby. Typical.

Looking ok for next week.

Steve ive pm'd you mate.

Went for a dive yesterday, watched a shoal of about 20 bass swimming around all small but great to watch. saw a little lobster scutteling around and a few mullet but didnt take anything as I just sort of enjoyed the dive and spent a fair bit of time trying to avoid been hit by a wind surfer.

Got out around 20:00 and got home around 23:30 what should of been an 30 minute drive turned into a road side recovery and a £100 tow home as my car has finally packed up GUTTED grounded until further notice

Just out of the water after a pleasant dive at Budleigh. Current was very strong over the reef. Didn't see much in the way of fish, but I did take a couple of nice wrasse for a fish soup.
Water temprature in the shallows is quite nice now and so I dived in a shorty. Makes it so much easier to move.
Hope to be getting in during this week and hopefully there will be more fish.

Cheers sunfish, I had to rely on the girlfriend for a lift to my dive spot today which was interesting

When we got the beach it was heaving with beach goers and divers, got in at the slip way and swam out to the string weed to find 2 nice bass swimming in the oposit direction to the scuba divers to the right of me which makes me wonder if they ever see anything other than wrasse.

Swam around for a bit and found a spot with 5 meters viz which was great for the area and soon bagged 2 nice pollack for dinner tonight , ran into a shoal of bass biggest been around 2lb so left them alone.

Plenty of fish seen but the high light of my dive was watching 2 lads in an 80's throw back boat getting *******ed by the coast guard for speeding around within the 5 knot bouys ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. and a big thankyou to the missus for taking me and picking me up with packed lunch and drinks

Went in for a dip on saturday night on the early rising tide at a Bovi ledge not expecting much but got a nice bass for tea. vis was poor 2-3m but below 5m claering ing the cooler water. Got buzzed by a shoal of about 10 3lb bass but they were behind me and never reappeared. did get a glimpse of an enormous tail fin though so there was a big one there as well.
Was dinghy racing sunday and on the way of the cattewater out saw a spearo in a rubber duck and elios camo suit.? who
the racing was light winds so to avoid the tide I crept over the weed on the southside of drakes island. looks really fishy there so must give it a go sometime.
