The Queens Harbour master is in control of all diving in the sound and you should inform Him via Longroom if you intend to dive there or the breakwater but I think its a formality and if you stay close in not getting in anyones way you should be fine . Ive see a spearo there regularly on the north side in the shallows but never on the south which is where i was .
occasionally the MOD plod will ask you to move if a ship is coming in. the main concern is the tidal stream which can get up to 6 kts so pick a slack time or have a chase boat ready.

So there are some fish in the locality! Good to hear, I was up at Heybrook backend of last week & dissapointed with the viz & lack of fish. The viz wasn't as bad as sunday I was around whitsands & the viz was about 1-3m :headstill saw small bass & mulett.

Not I at Drakes Island, same suit though. Agar I got your PM, was with the mrs last dive. I haven't forgotten you!

Doc, i think i know who you saw at the weekend, he's a friend of my old man. He doesn't frequent these forums (as far as i know anyway) i haven't dived with him yet, but he's a very good diver from what i have heard. He dives in a smoothskin picasso suit.

Just back from Brixham breakwater with Tribs. Viz was poor with very few fish seen. Bagged a good wrasse and missed a Bass. Saw Scott going in off the breakwater. Hope you had better luck Scott.
Saw the local seal who followed us for a while.

Nice to meet you North1. Well the viz was a little better along the breakwater, saw one bass but he shot off into the murk before I could get a line up on him. stayed in for an hour deepest dive was 7.8 meters with 2 meters viz on the edge of the string weed.

Most of the guys use a D3 or some type of similar dive watch which tells you your depth, period of dive and surface time etc. Quite nice for monitoring your progress/performance. Oh they tell you the time aswell.

Spot on James T I bought mine from good old ebay £100. Mint condition with a silicone cover over the screen, bought a cable which lets me download and view my dives as a graph or replay second by second . helped me with my recovery time and also showed me my accent was too quick which explained the ear aches I was getting after a dive.

Yeah i've had a quick look on the web and can't find anywhere with it in stock or decent price. Appears to have been superceded by the D4 which is a lil bit too expensive at over £225

Hopefully ebay will come to my rescue (blocked site at work!)

Sounds interesting to be able to check out your dives afterwards on the PC. I have no idea how deep I can or have dived so would really enjoy viewing it all at the end of the day.

For me personally it helps with a variety of things. During the dive it helps me respect my breath-up time instead of rushing back to the bottom. Also helps me understand whether I am 'in the zone' from a breath-hold perspective - sometimes I think I am not holding my breath long enough or too short - the watch tells me exactly what I am doing. Normally if there are Bass around I find they come in on my agachon within 45 seconds or so. So its good to know my holds are exceeding this. After a while the watch does become a little more redundant I find - just cause you get used to the timing of things - but it still lets me know when I am in for a bo#####ing for staying in too long.

well clive i dive about three or four times a week have had no probs with batts they go on for about 18mths D3 now has finished it has to be a D4 now i would sell mine for about £125 ant takers

same thoughts, same 'Ouch' on price!!!! Thinking Suunto Giecko (not sure on spelling) but £150? Or Oceanic have got a hockey puck variety going for £114 but no download spec (not bothered)

hi tribs D3/D4 is the way forward Geccko ? not much good to us has to much bottle diving on it don't know much about the others recorded depths of 50ft and bottom times of 1.30mins and thats in bad vis
