hi just liketo share these photos hope you like 2 gilt head bream 1 1.9kg and another 2.256kg speared local had a good day

Those are cracking bream Neale. I'm guessing "offshore wreck". Bet you're giggling now!

Back in tonite as I thought it would be ok on the weather front & was hopefull of sunny spells but it wasn't to be.

I headed to Wonwell, got al my kit on & trundled off down to the rocks. There were a few piles of weed so I was a bit concerned about the viz but I thought there may be some clear bits further out. I waded out into the soup & spooked a fish which was encouraging, sat on a rock to put my fins on & to my horror one of the clips for my fin straps had fallen off. What do I do? All this time & effort I had to go in!

I didn't have much to work with, do I go back & scour the quater mile of sand? give up & go home? No! Use my stringer to wrap around the peg on my fin & get in! If I needed the stringer well then I would carry my fish home.

I got in paddled about & could find no hint of better viz, I couldn't see the end of my gun:head:head

Gave up, walked back & luckily found my fin strap fitting on the sand

Hey ho, it wasn't all bad & it just started to rain after I got in the car.

Went in with shiny 1 today but 1st we had a go with the rods. He stops at a spot and says try here. If we dont have a fish in the 1st few casts he says they're not here and we move. We try another spot and he says you'l get fish here. He was right again but only a pollack. Edible size tho. So he says lock n load and in we go. We tried 2 different spots. The viz was ok, I saw a few fish and got 1 mullet. We were Fishin the same area and i hardly see any fish he comes back 2 the boat with a bass fest. U cant buy experience. Cant wait 2try again but the weather is against us. Good luck 2 all. Greenhorn

Got in today for a mid afternoon dive. Viz was around 2-3 meters but cloudy, saw loads of fish,,, probably the most ive seen in this spot all year, a nice mixture of bass and mullet and plenty of bait fish around. with the odd monster wrasse spotted.

Took 2 bass and then spent the rest of my dive digging around the rocks and watching the mullet zooming around, very entertaining


Taking the other half out on the rib tomorrow and then diving in the afternoon. Wind depending, Sunday should be an all day boat dive

so fingers crossed the wind doesnt pick up

Dived today off the boat, got to the beach at 7:30, unpacked and carried everything down to the beach, 8 trips later and alot of huffing and puffing the boat was inflated and ready to go.

Dived 4 spots along the coast,

1st was quiet with only a small shoal of mullet took the biggest and moved on

2nd spot I found loads of mullet amongst the bootlace, took 3 from there

3rd spot was dead with very little fish other than the usual wrasse

4th spot was perfect,:friday shoals of schoolie bass with 3-4lb's sitting in the gulleys, lots of big mullet which seemed to be bullying the smaller fish.
took a mullet and a bass from there and called it a day as I knew I had another 8 trips up and down the beach to pack all the gear away.

Fantastic day out, good weather, good viz and more fish than you can wave a stick at.

I think im going to have to get a bigger outboard, 3hp just hasnt got the power:head the rib can take upto a 8 so I think something in that area will be my next purchase. as well as some launch wheels

Got in the water with shiny1 today for a pre birthday dive, the old boys 47 tommorow:crutch. Visibility was excellent in places (a day really can make all the difference to the vis) but the bass didn't seem to be around in numbers unfortunately, however the mullet were running thick so we got plenty of trigger time in after all. Shiny took the best fish of the day, with a 5lb bass.

Basically- Budleigh, ridiculous tide power, tiny bass, 30 mins - out. Met a nice french chef though with a big haul of wrasse (Apparently the secret is in the freezing????)

Budleigh agin tonight and viz is still really cloudy, hundreds of weeny bass around so there is hope for the future but only just. Nothing else really about. Everything is small or a wrasse at the mo????

Cheers mate, Sunday Sounds good to me, How much time you got and how early can you get up in the morning
Due to the easterly winds the bay might be a bit messy. I'll pm you my new mobile number as Ive given up looking for the old one.

Do you ever look in the stomachs of the fish to see what they been eating? I seem to check now so to tell the fisherman who make a bee line for me when I get out the water.

Hi flyflicker,i ment for the amount of time spent in the water and the ones i missed.Yes a 7lb bass is a nice catch.Lobsters cooking as i type.

Got in the water at Heybrook Wednesday and Thursday with Pete and Chris Mills. Fantastic vis Wednesday (7m+) and slightly less on Thursday (5ish).
Day one: got in around 10:30am, saw a shole of at least 30 mullet but missed on both shots by which time they'd taken fright. Lots of pollack and wrasse around. Chris got two bass while Pete took a pollack.
Day two: in the water later than before (12:30). I shot a fair sized pollack and a mullet, though the latter was a bad shot into the tail and it tore itself off the spear. Chris saw no bass, probably due to the low tide (sorry for sleeping in!)

Hi all, I had a go at high tide out Stoke and saw a few fish, not masses. It was cool watching a bull huss (i think) swim under me. I got a bass and a mackerell. I had a go near Picklecombe fort yesterday when the tide was on its way in. I didn't see a great deal and the viz was about 2m. lots of stringweed and kelp but it was very cloudy. I saw a shoal of good sized mullet and occasional glimpses of other fish but not much. I shot a mullet but he ripped off the spear :-( I think that spot maybe better on high tide. lots to learn. greenhorn

Hello everyone,this is my first post on here but i have been watching the posts for a while now.I live in plymouth but do most of my fishing in cornwall,mainly around the rame peninsula,portwrinkle with the occasional trip down to the lizard area.Ihave just come back from Talland,vis was pretty good,took 4 bass and 2 mullet.Plenty around but not a great deal of size,gonna have a nother look on sunday hopefully.

Well another long day for Shiny1 showing us lesser Spearo's how it's done!

I'm fairly new to doing this properly so after meeting at our 'Social' where we were thin on the the ground (some valid excuses were tendered dancing :inlove lesson's, :martialthings etc. However it was better than failing to make any excuses :naughty

So back to todays report. Location 1, Shiny1 to check viz, lots of tide not ideal for newbie's so i'll have a plug & watch for the pick me up wave...........

Hmm I can see a tiny spec some quater mile away but it's not waving yet, eventually I get the wave & pick up. I have had a tiny pluck on the plug but that's all. Shiny had no luck if I recall correctly viz not great mark 2 here we come!

Just a small patch of sand/string weed 10 mins later i'm plugging away & there are bass & mullet showing themselfs on Shiny's spear we are in business.......

A quick inspection of a sea cave by Shiny, I get my gear on & we head many miles west. My turn :t

Pick down, i'll go left you go right. Shiny advises 'fin quietly & keep looking hard in the weed where the sand meets, they will be just sleeping there' 'ok i'll do my best'.

Off we go I see nowt then some monster wrasse, cool. I'm finning v slowly searching every kelp frond near the sand /in gulleys, 20mins in 3 bass sleeping on the sand all look 3lb + I'll have a go at the closese/biggest! They all split, missed! Mullet cruise's by tracked & couldn't resist a shot, missed.

Unfortuantly this was to be the way of things to come:headmissed another few fish, trying to track them ending up off balance rolling over, give up tracking! moved on & was scanning a gulley & saw something?
I looked harder, I could see a large head through the kelp, what the hell was it? For a few seconds I saw what it was & had to do a double take, I didn't have my killer instinct. I was hmm, i'm right on top of it pan view, i've never shot anything a third of this size, if I do hit it i'm going to lose it. By the time that got processed I could see it no more! I would be confident it was a double figure Bass, difficult to judge but I think 12lb minimum. WowI was buzzing, it was cool to see such a fine beast. I saw many more fine fish all good size but missed, might have bounced off but it was not going well.

Shiny brings the boat over & has only seen a couple & has them in the bag. I confess to piss poor shooting & the monster bass sighting, in return I'm quizzed on my failure to shoot at the monster.................. sorry.

We worked allong the coast a bit more Shiny picks up a few more fish, I miss a nice mullet, another bass spotted under my feet but no shot. back to the boat & off to find Shiny, another fish wave from him & get in for my last chance. Saw no fish, viz was good & we were mostly over sand, I had to go home with a empty bag but it was sunny & I had great company.

I had a vey enjoyable fishless day.

I took some pics of Shiny's top fish he will put them on later & was 4oz off guessing the weight of it, the monster I saw was a double!
