Had a shore dive today with Shiny1. Viz was good and we had a mixed bag. Looks like the weather is against us for a while but hopefully we'll all get the chance to have a go again soon.

Greenhorn

Nice one Gents, that is a good mixed bag. Them John Dory are some freaky looking fish aren’t they and that’s a nice dose of the Crabs you’ve got there to.:):)

Hi Podge,Yes A nice little mixed bag.Greenhorn Bish had his first lobster yesterday.it was'nt in the pic though it was in the pot cooking at the time.We both dived the same beach i went right him left,i had crap viz he had good.Nice dive though, still plenty of bass about and the sea temps still good.Looks like a few days off again due to the weather though.

Shame about the weather mate, but my nose is keeping me out of the water still due to the after affects of the surgery, still only another couple of weeks and I’ll be back in there for the winter flatfish and scallops.
Go luck for next time out and keep the stories and picts coming as they’re keeping me sane.:)

TRIBS,if its just the knees that have gone on yer suit, get hold of some sikaflex, its a marine adhesive, that comes in all sorts of colors, and it will stick like stuff to a blanket.Mask off the area you want to cover and spread it on like butter, try not to get it on yer skin cause you wont get it off,but it will make the knees on yer suit pretty much indestuctable, will also make a pair of gloves last longer if you spread it on the fingertips, trago mills do it for about £7.

Have you tried it on the soles of socks Robsue? Those, and the glove fingers you mentioned, probably wear out faster than any other bits of gear.

Some guys add dozens of little blobs of the stuff on their speargun handles too.

Sikaflex you say! Nevr heard of it but willing to try anything recommended. What section of Trago should I investigate to find it? Fishing/ Automotive?

Tribs

Sikaflex is a marine sealant, I use it for sealing deck fitting on boats etc.

That is a brilliant idea Robsue20. I get through socks and gloves quickly. I reckon that sikaflex stuff could be used as a glue to stick on patches over the knees aswell. Cheers have some rep for that.

Just looked up Sikaflex on the web and there seem to be several different products. Which one is best for wetsuits?

Old man dave,

I have the same suit as Tribs, has caused me no problems I not damaged it yet. Mind, not given it too many outings but is is on it's 2nd season. I paid circa £150.

Buy one!

got in for a dive today. Viz was shocking close to shore but improved further out. Fish were few and far between so went a bit deeper and found them in 12 meters of water . Had 2 bass and managed to p!ss off about 10 fishermen who all seemed to blank ;)

Well done Scott. I had a wasted trip near Falmouth today in similar conditions. I admire your tenacity.

cheers LAZ I find it very hard Not to get in the water when I know theres takable fish swimming around ,regardless of the viz or state of the tide.

I used to only dive certain places in certain states ( tide, wind, swell) and missed out on a lot as I believed they would only be good at those times.

This year ive got in regardless of tide or wind and ive had a real eye opener, Ive kept diving all thru winter and summer and watched my favourite spots change with the seasons. I watched as the first bass trickled in in the beginning of April and saw huge shoals of mackeral feeding close to the shore in June and July. Ive had dives where I couldnt see the end of my spear and others where the viz has topped 10 meters. Ive beaten my PM twice and now im hanging on as hard as I can to the tail end of the season hoping to break it again.

I forgot to say that when I went in on Wednesday I had forgotten my stringer! I unclipped the strap off my digital camera and used that. Bit of a pain when your trying to push the clip through the mouth and out the gill and you have the gloves on but it did the trick. I need to do a check list before setting off. Shiny was loving another Greenhorn slip up....

Can anyone tell me if you are able to launch a small boat from bovisand harbour or is it not open to the public. I want to launch my rib from there to dive the breakwater and it seems to be the closest possible launch spot.
