viz was good 3-5 meters in the shallows and 7-10 in deeper water, didnt see any big bass as I spent most of my time with my head in the sand looking for flatties so probably missed loads rofl

Possible dive tomorrow

Hey Neale, thats good news on your Dad...it was strange reading the BSA results this year and not seeing his name there...I bet he'll be back next year and beating everying again! Send him my regards.

great report shiny, whats all this marking your torritory busness? i know somebody else who does that, dirty boys me ,lee and JamesT headed south today around exmouth not a fish in sight viz was poor but the ground was good think it will have to wait for next year now, still good to be out spashing around with good friends

Hey All,

Went out with North1 today and our new spearo buddies, Olivier and his mate dan. Not much doing but it was our first attempt at a beach launched boat dive. What a difference it is to have a boat to spear from!!!!!!! Nothing much seen but the ground you can cover is amazing. Desparate to go again.

Tribs

chumming ah so thats your secret! well if there out im sure you can track them down! im off codding in the bristol channel

Just picking up on Shiny1's report and saying I cant believe we went in 3 times and overall we must have spent between 3 and 4hrs in the water. I was cold at times but when you see fish it takes your mind off it a bit. I drew a blank on the fish front but enjoyed a good dive and a good laugh in the boat. I'm just trying to work out if it was brown camoflauge on Shinys wetsuit!!!!!!! I'll be back in for go on Monday and I hope to put a pic of one of those big bass on the site before to long.

Went in up at Stoke this morning. viz wasn't great but ok in areas. As soon as I got in I saw plenty of pollack, most of edible size but I didn't shoot at any because I have a long swim backto wear I planned to get out. I didn't see any bass today. I did find myself in a huge shoal of mullet and shot a decent sized one. After that I saw one single mullet but I couldn't get near him as I was at the end of my breath as per usual. I did take a couple of edible sized pollack. May go again tomorrow but if not I'll go Wednesday.

Hey all,

Went in tonight and would mirror Shiny's viz report- crap. Went after work, light fading, people on the beach wondering if i'm in control of all my faculties!!!!! 'Swimming in November?' they say.

Still nothing seen, like milk. Olivier you were correct my man.

out

You brave man Tribs. I am keeping my eye on the forecast for the weekend. If there is a window I will get in. Shouldn't be in more than 2 hours so I won't get cold!
Shiny1, What thickness is the suit that you are using if it is your summer suit as well? Good bass again by the way.

pulled the Kayak out the back garden this afternoon and headed down to meadfoot for a dive. Paddled out towards thatchers and then hopes nose. viz was 2 meters and very quiet, paddled about for a bit and then just sat there and took in the view. sun was setting, no boats whizzing around or screaming moaning fisherman, a few seagulls bobbing up and down in the gentle swell and not a breath of wind.....priceless.

Conditions look good for the weekend so might go chase a few late season bass around before it goes quiet

Hi all

I was invited out in the boat with Shiny1 today but using the rods and line. We had 6 bass between us, Shiny had 4, one was about 7.5lbs. He spotted a fishing float some distance from us and he decided we'd pick it up. I reached over and grabbed the float and pulled the line in. On the end was a bass of about 2lb maybe 2.5lb. So I claimed it even though he spotted the float Final score 4-3

Happy days

We are planning a spearing sesh tomorrow.

Good effort Mark did you catch them on prawn or lures? ive never had much luck with lures

Hi Scott

Shiny said don't tell them we used live mackerell It is class when they hit the live bait. Thanks for the Gopro info. I may take it tomorrow for my dive with Shiny.

roflroflrofl I wont tell anyone you used live mackeral tell shiny his secrets safe with me.

So you braving the cold waters tomorrow hey, I went down first light today and found the spot blown out so will try again tomorrow, 100 mile round trip .....aahhh the dedication

I hope it is worth your efforts Scott. I think the plan is to be in an hour before low tide and try to last as long as possible. I'm thinking positive and hope to bag a few fish, I'll be happy having some mullet/pollack but would like a bass or 2. I have only had 1 flattie so far but Shiny assures me they'll be around in numbers soon. I've been tempted to take a dogfish because I've never eaten it, but they are so dosile it feels like they have no sporting chance. Have you eaten it? I wonder if anyone else has? Apparently its nice but its the skinning. An old boy said boil it for a few minutes to soften the skin.

Good luck tomorrow.

Bish - greenhorn - Mark....whatever

Hi Scott

Thanks for the Gopro info. I may take it tomorrow for my dive with Shiny.

Mark - which GoPro are you using? - I am interested in the Hero 5 but I want to see some underwater footage before I commit - cheers,

James

Dogfish are edible and perhaps without knowing it you have eaten it before because it is often sold in Fish and Chip shops under the grand title of rock salmon! You are right about the skin though it is typically sharky and like sandpaper. I'm sure Foxfish knows how to prepare them for the table?

Hi James

I have the gopro 3 and hope to get some filming in tomorrow. Watch this space. Scott Wilson uses the G3 also and has some cool footage.

All the best

Mark

I've taken and eaten rays and doggies before. Both had an Ammonia taste, I have since learnet that people use different ways to treat the meat before they eat it to get rid of it. I think OMD posted some suggestions in the past elsewhere. In particular I think you can soak the meat for some time before eating and also leave for a day/only eat after it has been frozen. Others are more qualified on this but the point is that if you eat it straight out of the sea it does taste a bit funky...
