South Devon Report 2008

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Dived this afternoon off plymouth looking for a scallop bonanza, but only found one. It was worth getting cold for though. No fish to be seen, and the viz was bloody awful.

I got a good cheer from a car load of people as I accidently mooned them whilst changing out of my speedo's.rofl

Well done Scott and Trelawney

I've been able to do more rod and line fishing with Shiny but we have not got in. I drove to a spot a couple of days ago but it would have been better suited to a body board, to rough. I think we might attempt a dive tomorrow to see the year out.

howdy.

Well i haven't posted in a while here is some pictures of my little project i been working at.

I had been using a jet ski this year, but ditched that and brought this. Not really been able to try it out much yet.

Its a 10ft inflatable with a 2stroke 8hp outboard. It came with steering console and seat but ripped it out to make it lighter and faster......:D

And a picture of the sea near me atm, Im sure could find some scallops out there!!:blackeye

I remember the post when you had just got the jetski. Why did you ditch it? Looked ideal for getting you out to offshore marks quickly.

Well it was expensive to run, i was burning 20 + pounds fuel a day for only short distances, maybe a 4 stroke would of been better?. And they charge stupid amounts to launch skies around here. It was fast at getting on and off and moving to spots, but whats the rush!. It was a bit of a pain keeping fish and and gear on it, the hatch on the front could just about fit a can of beans in it.

I wouldn't mind a 15hp 4 stroke in the future that would really push it!

Scott how do you set up your anchor line and keep it all tidy on you inflatable?

I keep it in a box in the front. the lines connected to a D link in the front of the boat. One thing I did have to get was a chain for the anchor so that it digs in ( never used one with the kayak)

its probably not very good practise but I always retrieve the anchor first before I get in the boat to change spots, plenty of times ive got in, taken all my gear off only to find the anchor stuck in the reef and had to jmp in to get it. rofl

cracking bass for late in the year congrats scott,i think you should bring in the 2009 devon post scott if anyone disagrees drag ee cross em barnacles

Spearheads,

I'm thinking of getting a boat similar to yours for the coming season (although maybe with a bigger engine).

Mind if I ask how much something like that costs?

Does anyone else know a good place to go to pick up decent second-hand inflatables, of the gemini type?

Weather looks as though its improving, so I expect to be in the water tomorrow (although n ot in your area - probably around Portland)

Happy new year to all

Gaz there will be loads in the web based boat marts, eg:
Boats for Sale, Used Boats for Sale, Motor Boats, and Narrow Boats for Sale, Chandlery, and Sailing Holidays
Boats for sale UK, used boats, new boat sales, free photo ads - Apollo Duckhttp://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/php/welcome.php3
http://www.boatshop24.co.uk/

keep an eye on these for what you're after, also try the local papers. with old inflatables check the connection of the rubber/hypalon material to any rigid hull, look for splits and peeling of the connections.
ask to see the outboard running if poss.
good luck.

Happy New Year to you guys!

I paid £470 for boat engine and trailer. Keep looking on ebay, you can find some cheap inflatables on there.

cheers.

Friend of mine is selling this one Waveline inflatable boat on eBay, also, Dinghies Boats, Sailing, Sporting Goods (end time 05-Jan-09 19:35:22 GMT)

It's not as big as some but I know he always looks after his stuff very well so you can be assured that it is in good condition. He did have a very nice 8hp Tohatsu outboard for sale as well - might be worth asking about

happy new year lads & lasses, lets all wish for a better year than the last one,oh come on wheres your optimistic hat, don't drink so much sea water next year either,i hope we all come back safe from the sea,i would like to thank the RNLI as well as RNASR, thank you to them and to the EPIRB advice they give, its like a credit card don't leave home without it
