Not a bad evening on the weather front I guess you were home by then!

I wouldn't expect anyone to giveaway hot spots, it's all about go put the time & effort in youself. However a point in the general direction is always helpfull.

It was a toss up between spearing or pigeon shooting this afternoon, i'm off to Falmouth next week (should be alowed to spear) so pigeons it was. Not very productive but an enjoyable afternoon.

You & Janner got some fish, well done. I'll take you up on the offer to join you, see if we get any of the other learners to join us. I recon Agar will be up for it.


Looking forward to next week off. I will report back.

thanks for the advice. I don't get hayfever but I do suffer the sinuses a bit. I have started wearing earplugs and its helped a lot. Had a short spell in at whitsands today, it was pants. I saw a couple of bass after I had spooked them Viz was poor. Still I'm looking forward to the next hunt. I lost 2 mullet yesterday so on Shinys advice I'm going to get a spear with the twin barbs from spearo dave this week.

"Maybe" but Neale please tell us a few more details about how your managed to shoot such great fish?

Neale - really lovely fish mate - I've never seen a gilthead in the UK let alone been able to take one like that. They are beauties.

Do you have some more info on the conditions, depth etc its a fish I'd like to try for myself,

hi yes that was a good day with father we had a lot of nice bass two. father had 7lb and a couple of 6lbs bass so yes it was a good day .hope to catch some more. there was a shoul of 6 un unbelievable sight underwater should of had another 2 .dad went couple days later and had a nice black bream. cheers happy hunting

Hi all
Back from my summer travels taking various children to dinghy events. Took my gear in the hope of a few good sessions but not much opportunity really. The llyn peninsula N wales was spot number one and after 3 blanks in soup tried the north coast at a beautiful spot called Whistling sands. big gullies and strong tides looked very fishy but missed as queasy in the swell.
Then a wasted week in Porthcothan so surfed all week
Finally a weekend at sidmouth fine settled weather at last and 3 bass and 3 mullett off the reef to the west. got quite a bit of abuse from an angler who told me one of "us" comes down with tanks and clears the place out regularly!!! well with my catch in hand i reassured him there were plenty left.
I've usually had no trouble from anglers who mostly seem to understand us.
Back to work now!!:-( But will in portland in a few weeks)

keen on meeting up with the other plymouth spearo's for a beer or three

I'm going up to see my inlaws on Saturday and unbelievably I've been given a free pass despite blanking on my last four dives. They are in Kingsbridge and I could probably get away for 3 to 4 hours. Presumably the wind will be up but if any one can give me some pointers that would be great. Thanks

I met a man at Babbacombe car park today who saw the mullet I was holding and said "nice bass". After I had explained what it was he then told me that he had seen huge shoals of bass in Frogmore Creek at high tide. I expect they were mullet but nice and handy for Kingsbridge :t

Napper - why don't you have a go at Thurleston or Bigbury-on-sea.

If the wind is blowing northerly and the vis is clear you could do worse than trying the wreck at Thurleston - the Louis Shied - divable from the beach - part of it used to stick out at low tide - so not deep and easy to find as it is right next to the reef. Lots of life around there.

Dived at Babbacombe on Wednesday - I haven't checked but if the winds have been blowing westerly since then it could be worth a try. I swam south out of Babbacombe and took a small Bass before my gun rubber broke - there were some takeable Pollack and Bass around. The vis was pretty good too.

However I got very freaked out by a large Grey Seal following me around close to Babbacome - it left me as I got closer to Anstey's but still didn't do my diving any favours. Dived down the side of the cliff into an over-hang and found my friend lying on the bottom looking up at me. At least the seal seemed to find it funny. I could hear it snorting and blowing behind me - some sort of seal joke I suppose. Loser - should get out more.

Babbacombe was still OK ish yesterday. Quite cloudy overall but cleared in places to give up to 3m viz. Saw no bass but quite a few mullet around one of which slowed down enough to get shot.

maybe i will just stay in and pray for clear skys and perfect seas for sunday...

Hey All,

On me holl's in Cornwall & finally managed to get in where it wasn't too rough.

Sennen was sunny & warm, my good lady was happy to sleep in the sun so I was off.
Viz was ok around 4m with a fair bit of weed about, only had a short session out around the rocks in front of the lifeboat station. I saw some wrasse around 4-5lb but that was about it. There were 2 other spearo's who went out to the big rock I stopped & said "How's it going?" but they had seen nothing so I gave up & had a pasty!

I'll band a few dates around for a 'social' beer in Plymouth soon, I think Tribs wants to go party but we will see how it goes!
