I use magic seaweed to check for swell and then the met office Met Office: Teignmouth: forecast wind for wind gust and direction.

Lol, i dubbed it "tragicseaweed" because the wind forcast was so wrong. Good for tides and also not bad for swell forcast but you need to learn to read it for your particular break. I get reliable swell forcast for Crantock area but i have compared their forcast with the actual swell for a long time now. Steer cleer of tragicseaweed for wind forcasts though!
I am suprised some don't like windguru for the wind forcast. That is the only one i use and it has always been spot on for me. It has always been important due to the nature of going offshore on my kayak, and so far i have not been let down not even in the slightlest!
In the end its all about what you feel most comfortable using and what you get use to!
Yeh gutshots right "tragiclieweed" isn't too bad for swell forecasting, you just need to learn to read it for your local break. Its the same for both wind and swell, if seaweed gives you one set of figures you can use them as an indicator and through experience work out how much you can expect the swell size, wind strength and direction to deviate.
plus at the bottom of the page for your chosen spot there will be wave buoy data which is the most current and reliable source of info. In summary lieweed=inaccurate but good for showing general trends and potential conditions.

I have had a few dives over the last week and have had some bass and mullet each time. I was in yesterday and 3 bass on my stringer when I was joined by a seal for the 1st time. I did not see anymore fish after this but it was cool having it swim with me and around me. It was funny seeing it laid on the bottom in the weed and looking up at me as if it thought I could not see it. I am glad it was not a big male as I would have been a bit unnerved. I wondered if males would bother us or whether they are just playful the way this one was. I guess it would be different if pups were around. I have seen plenty when I have been out with Shiny but this was the first time one had been a few feet from me and nosing the tips of my fins.

right then, i'm off for my first crack at spearfishing today, the sun's out, there's no swell - it's just gorgeous out there. i'm lucky enough not to need any lieweed etc as i live on the other side the road to the beach - god i love it here. let's hope there's a fish out there for me to impress the mrs - got to justify my spends on all my new gear somehow!
This is the inshore waters forecast, the one used on the shipping forecast, radio four last thing at night, the astonishingly sexy voice of Charlotte Green, ahhh.
Just click on the area you're interested in, it doesn't always apply to shore diving it's more for inshore boats (obviously.)
But it will give a general idea of whats going on.

I dived your neck of the woods on saturday, swell was great fun in the boat and the viz was actually pretty good. Landed up with 2 bass on the 3lb mark which made for a good day. Looks like we in for a diveless week ahead with the forecast

Winds not looking good Scott. Everytime I feel ready to drop the Greenhorn tag something else happens But I have been doing better so I'm dropping it now lol.

Hi all whent for a dive on sunday and monday the viz is down to 2 to 3m at the best, ruching tide ,choppy sea any way got my best mullet of the year on monday with a 5lb10oz and a nice 4lb brown crab it is typical my wife is away for 10 day and the weather forcast is rubbish got upp this am at 5 to find a fick fog so went back to bed in discus

Seeing as the wind has blown out the diving, I took a walk to Heybrook Bay this afternoon for a spot of prawning at low tide. The wind was still blowing in but nowhere near as bad as yesterday. Lots of washed up kelp, and the water is BROWN. Got a nice bucketful of prawns though.
Anyone found any vis on the south coast recently?
I've got a friend who wants to go for a first dive. He won't have a gun so we just need somewhere where he can see a few metres and get used to the suit and sort his weight out.

There is some vis' down on the South Hams coast, (here on hol's).
Fish-able from Hall Sands to Start Point (about 2m-3m vis'.)
But better on the Western side, Start point to Salcombe, (5m +.)
Not seen anything big, but some take-able fish around (45cm +), just eaten one now.
