Got in today as planned. Vis was great and sea was flat but where are all the fish hiding? 
Spent 4 hours exploring acres of stringwed and kelp and not so much as a glimpse of a mullet and only one small bass seen.
Looked in a load of holes too and the edible crabs were all undersized so took 4 spiders home instead.
I left this little guy to grow for another year. He was small but feisty and came further out of his hole to see me off when I put the camera near him

Hi All,
Waited until the footie was over to post but shouldn't have bothered!
Got home from work early and decided to have a go. Tried some new ground and was rewarded in seeing my first flatfish of the season ( I had been inspired by Shiny1's vids!!!!!). Took my time and hand spreared it with the gun loaded. It turned out to be a good choice as I would nearly always shoot at them. This one looked to be on sand but when the spear went in the fish was on a rock and I had to change the angle rapidly to get the spear through, move the fish and pin it down. On the stringer he went.
Moved on a little further to see what I thought was a strange looking shape in the sand - two eyes and a mouth but it was large, very large. Trouble was i was nearly out of breath and nearly on top of it when i'd spotted it. I carefully kicked for the surface and immediately forced myself back down but the wiley old boy had gone. He would have been 4lb easy - Gutted.
Continued on and met a very large cuttle fish hiding under a ledge, played with him with the spear tip for a while and left him to terrorize the ladies! Further out I found some tiny mullet playing in a sand bowl within the kelp but the tide was really ripping and they weren't worth taking. More finning and nothing much more doing. Salvaged some fishing gear (Its the Steptoe in me) on the way in then rushed home for a major England disappointment. Wished I stayed in looking for the big boy I missed.

Yes, local fish. Thinking of going tomorrow pm on the dropping tide, probably over on budleigh reef. What are your plans?

man i never get signal in budleigh on vodaphone is a nightmare gt my dad coming down and my bro on the boat for a spot of rod fishing im still speariing though going out about 10 ish weather looking good 4 it wat was the vis like??
Went out from Putsborough today on the low the viz was great. saw lots of shoals
of small bass and one of about 20 sea trout only ever seen them in singles before.
Had one nice bass move away in front of me in the kelp had no chance but it was nice to see.

P.S Dan you think you have a problem with signal you should try north Devon, mind
you they are a bit backward up here compared to us southerners!

Ever have one of those days where you just cant hit fish no matter how hard you try :head today was one those days....
I started off at the crack of dawn, packed the car and made the short trip down to the beach. The viz looked good from the beach and once in I was welcomed by cool clear water teaming with fish
Took a while to find the sizable fish and then it all went tits up. Every shot I made I missed by a mile. I would like to blame the gun but to be honest I was just having a crap day roflroflrofl spent 3 hours in, enjoyed the dive but left fishless.
